how did you get into it...how did you start doing it?

primarily interested in bikini, fitness, figure...though bodybuilding welcome to tell me too :)

Im considering this as a long term goal and don't have a clue how anyone gets started in it

also..I noticed that all of them around here have a polygraph?? is that for anabolics?

I you at competing in a natural organization then yes the polygraph is to check if you have taken any band substances. Its cheaper to check like that than a urine test for everyone.

I have competed my first two shows were figure. I started as a goal to get lean. You pick a show and start basically it's probably a good idea to pick a show that has another contest coming up 4 weeks or later just in case you aren't ready in time.

hmmm...seems like the only ones here are "natural" ..or maybe thats just what I found in a cursory look around

Pretty sure most girls competeing in anything other than bikini arent 'natural'. Just way to hard to train that hard for that long without some kind of help.

idk...my test levels naturally are close to a low dose anavar run...and I know I'm not the only one

it seems like the leap from figure to bodybuilding would be about impossible w/o anabolics tho

Im not an expert by anymeans and havent competed but do know that its probably damn near impossible to compete in bodybuilding without anabolic help

The look they want now for figure if you had decent genetics you could do it without anabolics IMO

I know some figure girls who's cycles were stronger than mine when I did bodybuilding. I never really changed my cycle much from bodybuilding to figure. I basically dieted longer and did more cardio.

The NPC and IFBB brought on Woman's Physique last year witch is suppose to be like classic bodybuilding. This is a push for less drugs as the current state of FBB has gone way to extreme. I think for physique given decent genetics and good base of years dieting and training you could do it with minimal to light cycle.

If you are doing bikini and you have to do anabolics you for sure are lacking in knowledge for dieting and training bikini should always be a natural event.

I'd agree with QT. The figure look, now, vs what it was a few years ago is not necessarily needing aas help. It all depends on what org you're looking at too. The natty movement where I live is really taking off and there are a lot of women who compete without any help and look really good. That being said, I've been to a few natty shows where it felt more like a beauty pageant. Imo, it depends a lot on how long you have trained to build up your muscle mass and how good your prep was. Genetics kick in somewhere too.

I started a lot like QT. I wanted to get leaner and wanted to see if I could do it. It almost seemed like a rite of passage at the gym I was in and I wanted to see if I had what it took to get on stage. It was a challenge to myself.

I'm looking at physique for this fall. The org I compete in is untested and I, too, feel like women's bb has gotten a little bit crazy in terms of how much you need to use to be competative. I'm not willing to run the heavier cycles and I don't want "that look" but at the same time, I will most likely be too big for figure, so I'm stuck in the middle somewhere.

You basically have to plan it backwards. Choose a show date and then start counting weeks back. Depending on the category, will depend on how lean you want to be and how many weeks prep to give yourself.

Competing is an amazing experience but also can be all consuming. I had hoped for June but have had too much personal stress and just haven't been able to commit to the prep time. The good thing is that the stage is always there!!

From what I have seen in bikini here the girls are lean but don't have super ripped abs or anything nice butt very often faux boobs. Also they are younger at least the ones that win seem to be under 25 even in the pro division Nicole Nagrani won the Olympia bikini this year she is only 19.

I'll look at what you posted QT

bikini turned me off because your shoes were actually counted as part of your score....I was like...wtf, if I make the wrong shoe choice I lose points?

I have a good base of muscle and because I took time off last trimester, house fire, what not...muscle is jumping on fast like newbie gains (muscle memory?)
I've been jumping for higher weights and feel really good on the current keto diet so I think if I can maintain what muscle I have and shred fat I might be good to go for a late summer show...but want to judge where Im at by the end of this month

it definitely seemed like moderate muscle and low bf (sub 15%) was where figure was at

oh and there was an over 35 division...so that was cool...I'll be 35 in august

Yeah the masters would be a good option for sure at least its more of a level playing field.

It's not really about bf% it's not like they have calipars on stage but from what I have seen I would guess bikini is more in the neighbourhood of 15% something like 13-17% for bikini. Figure is more like 13%-10% your abs need to be completely in and no jiggle to the ass for figure. For bikini there can be some jiggle to that ass still and you don't need a six pack more like a four pack.

As for the shoes as a judgement in bikini well figure isn't much better you are judged on your over all package of feminity I believe those are the words they use. In all of them you still have to look put together even bodybuilding. Say there was two girl with equal bodies however one had put more effort into her hair makeup etc her overall presentation would be considered better than a counter part that didn't put that same effort in. Competing can be a very humbling experience as judgement can be extremely subjective.

hmmm...I'll have to think more on it...
my biggest problem is hair because hair my hair fell out when my thyroid went apeshit again last summer...and it frankly hasn't finished growing back in
the makeup/model aspect of it doesn't scare me...I don't generally mention it on elite but I was a model from the age of 12-20

fuck being judged on some shoes tho! lol
the subjectivity of it has to be tough...

you think sub 12% ?? I've never gone below 15...thats food for thought

Im close to 30% in my avi...at 22% roughly now...have ab outline but not much else

calves and upper arms are always the worst on me for hanging on to fat
my calves are seriously the only thing I've ever considered having lipo-ed LOL

How long is your hair now? If its shoulder length or there abouts and not super thin you could go with clip in hair extentions they make a big diffrence and I know a great brand for only about $150.

For figure more than likely sub 12% it really depends on where you are competing I suggest going to watch a local show before you figure out what you are going to do.

its not super thin now...just sort of untamed because theres so much new undergrowth....its only chin length right now... I kind of hate it
you think a super stylish bob would fly? or you thinkin long hair is the lay of the land? Id be game for clip in extensions...

I'm gonna have to go watch some shows

From what I have seen it's mostly longish hair in bikini I think the 120 gram set would probably work for you even at chin length Clip-In Hair Extensions by Luxy Hair

I have the 160 gram set my hairs on the thicker side just for what ever reason I can't get my dam hair to grow to the length I want it these add about 4 inches to my total length and make my hair appear even thicker. I have had mine for over a year wear them a few times a month and I have colored them and they are still in great shape.

Check out the video on short hair

I have competed . I did a figure show and a bikini show . Was actually approached by the owners of my gym . I workout for stress relief and to stay healthy never even thought of doing a show . Also have to say once I committed to it and followed thru with it it was a huge accomplishment . It seems that every show is diff . Even as to what they are looking for . Diff areas play a part too . I def plan on competing again ! :)

Im goin for it....and I have four kids..who knows if I'll make it or not
but I'm gonna try my damndest

Good for you ! It's a big accomplishment just to make the commitment . :) it's nothing I ever pictured myself doing . I'm pretty shy and modest . I'm glad I did and will def do it again . My children were super proud and tell EVERYONE they know . Lol You will not regret it . It was strictly a personal goal , I did it for me . As mothers we put ourselves last quite often .

yeah..my kids have been pretty funny actually

the 5 yr old and 13 yr old were taking some little dumb bells from my bedroom and demonstrating military presses for my 10 month old..lol

yeah...it was cute..especially given that they came up with the presses on their own

and funnier still to me that I really only lift in the gym but have the little weights around for little rotator cuff type stuff for the husband..so Im not even sure how the idea entered their heads

I'm excited for ya, Shirlene, and will help or support you however I can!!
