Sort of off topic, but related: There's a 24 hour kabob place by my condo that is a staple of the neighborhood because the food is perfect, whether drunk or sober, day or night. Anyway, when we are planning on eating there we'll say something like, "Let's go fund terrorism," because there's a donations box for a mosque that is fundamentalist, and they sell an arabic paper there that has fundamentalist loyalties. Well, yesterday I went there with J, and he got a "to go" box, something I'd never done there. The "to go" box had a big ole american flag on the top and "Pride in america" written above it. I could only have been more amused if it had read, "We aren't terrorists."

This post makes no sense at all. What propoganda? I never said it was wrong. It's a mosque that is known to be fundie, thus prompting our JOKING about the terrorism thing. The guys that work there are great and I just found it to be highly amusing and not at all subtle that they use to go boxes with "Pride in america" and a flag on them. It's reassurance that really shouldn't be needed.

I've studied muslim religion very well. I'm not one of those "only talk to muslims, etc..." kinda people. According to Islam, muslims can marry outside their religion if the non-muslim convert to Islam. My grandfather on my father's side is a religious muslim and he married a religious christian. They lived and loved happily. Nothing wrong with it. Only problem is how the media shows us and makes us look like "sheep." That is only true for hizbollah and qa2ida, which are not true muslims btw...because in islam, you cant kill children and women and do that shit...you will go to hell if you do that in Islam.

It is OK for a muslim MAN to marry a christian, muslim, or jewish woman (these are faiths that are considered "people of the book"). However, it is NOT OK for a muslim WOMAN to marry anything but a muslim man. It is this way because the father decides how the children will be raised.

If a muslim man marries a christian girl, she doesnt have to convert. It's not the same if a muslim girl marries a christian man. it's because of societal norms and the fact the the father's name carries on, etc...not because of sexism.

that's interesting, alcatraz. You should start a thread about what Islam truly teaches. There are lots of prejudiced people on this board. I have a bf in Texas who is originally "Persian." I think he calls himself persian because if he says he is from Iran people discriminate against him. Even my father came up with all kinds of crazy shit like he was going to make me wear a burka and if we get married he will want the female children to have that female genital mutilation thing done to them. :worried: What the heck! When I ask him if he's Muslim, he denies it but gets very uncomfortable as if he is lying. I have asked him about religion, but he avoids the topic, BIG TIME. I wouldn't care what religion he is. I assume he just doesn't want to tell me he's Muslim.

Most Persians don't really practice any religion. He may be muslim "by birth" but never practices and wouldn't really consider himself one if it weren't for his family.

Dogs are considered "unclean animals" under Islam,all I need to know, my ex-wife's aunt is married to an Iranian man and she lives in Iran, wears the burka even when she visits the U.S. Her kids loved Nitchske and had been wanting a dog as a pet but it isn't allowed under Islamic law. That being said, Iranian people are one of the most progressive groups of Muslims in South West Asia.

PS You are allowed to own such an unclean animal if it is used to guard your flock or for hunting food.
