Who screams while lifting?

Does the screaming during a set really help you somehow lift the weight? Today I was watgching a video of Jay Cutler doing a let workout, and he was screaming quite a lot. I am not sure if he was doing so because it really helps him lift weights, or he did it for the show. What do you guys think? Who among you screams in the gym?

Depends. It definitely happens to me when I am hitting my PRs.

As for simple sets - I see it kinda awkward

absolutely.. why do you think when you watch karate they yell when they punch? it gets your entire core into it

most gyms don't allow this type of behavior though, although i have no problems with it. a lot of people treat gyms like the library

Many times powerlifters and other heavy athletes get slapped and screamed at in order to cause an additional adrenaline rush, that will definitely help lift more. Hence the reason many will scream when lifting their max weights.

It won't directly help with your lift but it will increase adrenal and help you get 'fired up' which may help you lift more.

We all have different ways to focus before a big lift. I personally close my eyes and visualize the movement over and over in my head and then perform the movement. Some people like to yell and get jacked up before their lift.

Try different methods and see what works best for you.

So much of this sport is mental...if screaming helps you then go for it. Everyone has their own thing that gets them ramped up.

man I tend to scream when doing very intense lying skull crushers for some reason. you can't do that in most mainstream gyms though..
