Which rings are which?

Could someone explain which rings on an olympic barbell are which.

I've been trying to figure this out too. Apparently there are different olympic bars some have 2-3 rings per side, some only have one ring.

All the ones in my gym have the smooth in the centre and 3 pairs of rings.

For comp. bench press it will be the rings spaced 31 7/8" apart.
