The equipment at the sporting goods store looks like crap.

Where can I find equipment you would see in a real gym? I have about a $1,000 to spend on my home gym.

Thanks for any info!

well, $1,000 isn't going to buy you much. have you looked for used in the newspaper? as i recall, plates are priced at about $1/pound. so....500lbs....$500.00.

I already have all the weights and bars. I also have a olympic bench but I'm not real happy with the quality. I would like to get a power rack that I could use for everything and saftly do squats.

Any ideas?

Stay away from general sporting goods stores and look for a fitness supply store. They sell to gyms as well as individual consumers and usually have a good selection. Most bigger cities should have a store like this, but I wouldn't expect one in a small town.

Thanks for the info.

I was looking on the web and found YUKON FITNESS EQUIPMENT. There price wasnt bad and the quality looked good. Has anyone used any of there equipment before? I called them and they said I could buy from them and pay freight or buy from one of there distubuters. He told me to go to PLAY IT AGAIN SPORTS. I thought they only sold used stuff but they had mostly new. Anyone ever bought anything from there?

I bought an Olympic weight set and a combo bench/squat rack through Play it Again Sports, but it wasn't a Yukon set. It was called a "Deluxe Power Bench" from Body-Solid, and its been great. Although, if I had it to do over again, I would buy a more traditional squat rack instead. I also eventuall purchased a hi/lo pulley bar that attaches at the foot of the bench.

I've seen Yukon equipment adverstised in Muscle Media magazine every month and it looks OK, but then again, that's why they pay photographers and ad agencies big bucks. I would shop around to find samples you can put your hands on before buying. It doesn't have to be the same equipment you want, just something that will let you see what type of quality they put out. Warranty is important! Find a company that will put a substantial backing on their equipment! Be careful, there is lots of cheap stuff out there.

Incidentally, I am happy with Body-Solid's quality and would buy from them again, but not without seeing what my options were.

Ahhh, dont invest in a home gym bro. I've done that before and I got bored out of my mind after 1 month. Unless there are no gyms in your area, you can save about $700 and invest in a gym membership.

Dont forget about eh chicks at the gym. I doubt there are any young chick walking around in gym sweats in your basement :D

The guy who make my log, stone, and yoke...also makes rev hypers and power racks. He can make the BEST power rack for less that $500. His will be my next one.
