When to wear a belt.

What weight should I start wear a lifting belt. I've injured my lower back to it gets sore easily. Right now I'm DL 375 and squatting 300lbs. I heard once you start lifting 1.5x you weight to start wearing a lifting belt.

personally, i dont feel much protection is provided by wearing a belt... in my experience it has mostly provided itself as a device to 'push off of' to help pull more weight...
since restructuring my training this month, i have decided to go beltless on deads for a while...
however, i am using a belt on clean and jerks, as i believe it does protect the jerk motion enough to be worthwhile...

when you can compromise your back....

The weight doesnt matter. Keep those abs in tight to stabilize the back. WEAR THE BELT. Whether you think you need it or not. Nothing wrong with being safe.

There is no set formula. Anytime I'm over 50%'ish when squatting; all deadlifts and overhead presses.

You have low back hx? I wouldn't do squats. Too much axial loading on the spine. Try other exercises to get the same results...

I use a soft belt like the ones from Rehband when I hit the 50% mark. When I am at 75% the soft belt comes off and the hard belt goes on. Anything at 90% or when I am going for something like a very heavy yolk run or or where I'll be giving max effort over several reps, the hard belt is on over the top of the soft belt.
