When to start working on Abbs

Hi everyone.

A little background first... im 21.. 5'9 168 lbs
When I was a senior in highschool I was about 220 lbs.. so obviously very overweight, I spent some time, changed some lifestyle habits, and have managed to get back into decent shape. However, i am not happy with just decent now. I want to look good.. here are some of my problems.

1. I have what seems to be sloppy extra weight around my waist. Like.. you cant see it when I got clothes on my stomach is pretty flat, but when I go to the beach or something, its just totally flabby and soft.. no tone to it at all. I have been training hard.. running about 3 miles daily and biking around 7 or 8 for the last 3 months, but it seems like this extra whatever it be.. skin.. fat.. is still on my stomach. Should I just continue on with my cardio workouts and be patient?

2. I want to start working my abbs.. but have been told before reducing the amount of fat on your stomach will only make things look strange. Should I wait and continue with a strict cardio only plan until my weight is down to around about 155 or 160... or should I start working my abbs now. I have noticed very little weight loss since I started my cardio routine.. and my eating habits are healthy.

I am not sure what im doing wrong.. or if I should just jump right into the full abb training or not.

thanks in advance.. you all seem to be very helpful here and have a ton of good advice

Joe

if your cardio is good ,then diet must not be right, you can always do mroe cardio and cut more fat out,but if your doing alot of cardio and no results its prob diet

you can, and should be following a regular weight lifting schedule hitting all major muscles (including abs) about once a week. doing so will increase lean muscle mass and go along way to increase your muscle mass and decrease flab...

you may also want to post your diet to the diet board to get some feedback.

don't just work your abs for the sake of having a six pack though, they are a very important stabalizing muscle...

balance the abs with back (acutally work all muscle groups, but don't do more work on abs just because you can(or can't ) see them more)
