Ok, I think you people typing at 100+ WPM are full of shit. I max out at around 50, and I'm around computers all day long.

I knew one guy (piano player) who tested at 120, and you couldn't even see his fingers moving.

My dad is a court reporter. My mom was before she quit to raise my sister's and I.

My finger's move something stupid fast.

Always have.

I practiced a lot though. I thought it would have a benefit when I grew up.

It's a nice skill to have, but since it's one of my best's, it'd be nice if it could help me out some.

Writing is the only answer I have.

And, I have a deep understanding for a lot of shit. So, that's something I contemplate.

Damn I wish you could have seen how fast I typed this.

I think anything over 120 is horse shit. To be considered for a court reporter job, you have to type 95 WPM. I think 140 is physically impossible.

I know a couple of real computer geeks and the are both around 100-110 wpm. But yeah 140? that seems like an obsence speed. 50 is physically possible. The world record is 212 wpm and the record holder can type 150wpm for 50 mins.

100-110... but I drop down to 60-65 if I am transcribing and I want to test out at .00 mistakes.

For me, speed is very relative to accuracy.

100-110 = 4-5 mistakes per 5 min
60-65 = ZERO mistakes per 5 min

Yeah... on a non-standard keyboard of course. She got an "I-Minus" in her typing class on a QWERTY keyboard. I could destroy her on a real keyboard.

I'll have to look into this Dvorak thing, though. If I can type 130-140 max on a QWERTY, I should be able to dominate on a Dvorak in time. Too bad it doesn't support curly braces... hard to program without curly braces. =(
