What's your motivation?-down for the count

I'm at a point where I've got so much going on between my business, a new house, a new relationship, death of a good friend... that fighting a diet, reducing fat and still building muscle isn't easy to keep up.
I have a serious body goal to reach by September and the other stresses help me derail myself from a constant clean diet and the time I need in the gym. Right now it's a lot easier pulling up a tub of ice cream and working 24 hours on my business, but none of that gets me anywhere I really want to be by September.

This isn't just whining. I can always stand up and try, try again, but sometimes that's easier said. When things are at your toughest ...honestly, your toughest...what's your personal motivation that pulls you up and keeps you going for weeks at a time to keep site on your goal without letting other issues pull you off track?

Thanks,
Mike

tis sounds bad but my life couch always says....enough with your story. i repeat this all the time to myself. many people have it worse than me. he always said it seems like i had an excuse for everything...so he said....enough with you story

what keeps me on track?

the endorphin rush I get in the gym

the feeling of accomplishment when I realize I'm going up in weight that I'm doing when I'm lifting

knowing that I'm progressing and moving forward mentally and physically instead of just getting older and aging like most people around me.acknowledging that without persistent lifting, consistency and dedication this wouldn't be happening at all.

Its the gym that keeps me on track. When I'm there I don't have think or give a crap about anything else. I would go nuts if I didn't have the gym.

The very fact that you're concentrating on what's getting in the way is the problem. No one ever acheived anything by getting sympathy. If you're looking for motivation, you'll probably fail. It's the guy who has everyone telling him it's hopeless and he does it anyway who succeeds.

take some pics of yourself and give yourself a shorter term goal like 3 weeks from that pic and have a realistic goal x amount of weight u want, and x amount increase in your lifts. Keep doing that every 3 weeks; take pics of yourself so u can see your progress. Just make short goals. September is the long term goal but don't focus on that. Gains will come sooner than you think. Give yourself at least 1 hr per day to cardio or lift. If you got more time other days, hit it longer. Stock your food for the week and eat all day long. You'll get motivated by the sheer fear of failure to miss your little goals. Good luck bro.

Honestly, with all that shit going on, I think I'd be more motivated to go all out in the gym. It really is my only stress reliever.

What he said!

I know what your saying bro. For me it was hurting my back and taking to many painkillers, which caused me to lose everything. Then my brother got wounded in Iraq, and going to Walter Reed for several months and seeing what those guys are going through, I mean i saw guys with just one limb left who were giving it all they had. I said to myself its time to quit being a punk and be the man that you know god created you to be, which is a succesfull one. I believe he wants us all to think that way. Buts its our choice. Think of the good pride you will have when things start going right again and you realize you kept hittin it through it all, youll feel unstoppable.

the gym is my stress relief. lifting can be very meditative in a way. My whole world is reduced to the focus of "getting that motherfucker UP" which clears my head to deal with all the other crap again when i'm done.

I agree bro.

Thanks you guys. You gave me some good insights into things I thought I already understood. Sometimes it helps to hear things from another perspective.

Nelson, You are so close to expressing a great truth I learned a long time ago and should have put before me. "What you're attention is upon, you become." In no way am I looking for sympathy. It's a waste of time and I don't keep people around me who want to express their hopeless beliefs on my life.
