Whats up with all these contests?

Have you guys notices a recent trend with all of these bodybuilding contests? Body 4 life, Mucsle and fitness rock hard challenge, flex2001 contest. Are they worth the investment of time and effort? Maybe its to promote better health among people to give them something to work for with a prize at the end. Just looking for some general feedback. Whats up with these contests?
