I was watching videos the other day and it struck me all of a sudden that i have never seen a video with guys like Kevin Levrone, Ronni Coleman, Jay Cutler etc etc doing slow controlled reps, they seem to explode as hard as they can on the concentric and not even try to slow the weight on the eccentric, They also dont pause at top for a peak contraction or pause at the bottom, doesn't that go against the "proper way" of lifting where people swear up and down you need a tempo of 104(example) combined with the TUT of 40-70 seconds multiplied by weight and reps blah blah blah.....then you watch these videos and they all lift as heavy and as explosive as they can and they really don't worry about form to much...would someone like to elaborate on this a bit? here are a couple videos for an example

no stopping at the top or bottom keeps the muscle loaded the whole time during repetition. more muscle stimulation = bigger muscles.

so another words there is to much hype and unnecessary things that people are focusing on that are hindering gains

because thats the way it should be done, extra slow reps and "peak contractions" are a crock of shit if you ask me

lots of the time yes.

And it doesn't need to be 400 pounds on bench to make your arms grow.
grab your weight, pump your reps till you're dead, rack the weight, do another set. vouala! if you're a power lifter, it's different, but if you just wanna get big muscles, do what you see the pros do.

fkin right. keep the muscle loaded, and pump those reps out neggas. If you can't pump out 10 or so reps hardcore like you see in these videos, drop the weight a little and do it.

that is not good advice bro, 99% of the people on this entire board should not train anything like a professional body builder.

It was a vague statement, lol. Sorry.

I always keep constant muscle tension. Which means never stopping during a rep.

On the other hand these are videos they are selling and they wanna impress you by their weights so they may have to cheat a little.

And that to their genetic gift and the amount of jiuce they are on and they could lift just about any style and be mass monsters.

Funny you mention this...I was watching Dorian Yates' video just the other day and kept thinking the same thing. He was doing ballistic leg presses, benches, etc., and I kept thinking "Ow. Hell no. That's just dangerous". I don't go "super-slow", but I do at least 3 secs. up and 3 secs. down with as good a form as possible. I'd rather hold the weight back a bit by being honest and slower than to throw it up just to say I lifted "x" amount. It's not like it really matters anyway; someone will always claim to lift more, or actually will lift more. Who cares? I just want to grow the muscle, not earn bragging rights. Watching Ronnie Coleman's video, he's not only bouncing and throwing the weights, but he isn't using a full range, either; and not just on the pressing movements. I can't understand the use in preacher curling halfway down and bouncing the dumbbell back up. That puts a ton of stress on the tendon. Now, I know that someone will jump up and say "yeah, but he's Mr. O" or some other junk. I don't care...I'm not doing it just because he does. My grandfather smoked 4 packs of Camel unfiltered a day for years and lived to almost 70. So what? That doesn't mean it's a good idea.
