What works for one person...

I have noticed that different things work for different people. That's true from metabolism to insulin sensitivity to how easily we build muscle to how much cardio is needed. ETC.

It has taken me a long time, but I've finally found my magic formula and I am really excited about it so in celebration I am posting it! :D After reviewing my journal, I realized that every time I do things in this way I see results much quicker than planned. Hopefully, this will help someone else who is playing around with lot's of different things and getting frustrated.

1) Cardio 45 mins, moderate-high intensity, 4 times a week atleast 6 hours after I have been awake. I used to do it 6 times a week, longer and lower intensity, as well as shorter duration and high intensity. (Like Bill Phillip's way). I've also tried it FTITM and found that it makes no difference other than its hard to fit into my schedule.

2) Weight training hard is what makes the fat really come off for me. 3-4 days a week works best for me, and I agree with Spatt's training to failure hard the first week and then going light the second week. In the past I pretty much neglected my legs, assuming that the running I do is all I needed. I saw results in the form of strength and size/cuts as soon as I started training them hard. And that's when the fat loss really accelerated! I could cardio all I wanted, 6 mile runs and such, but nothing made a difference like weight training!

3) Eating absolutely clean is essential. "White Death" ruins me and keeps me fat no matter how good my exercise program is. Processed carbs are the devil for me. There is no fat loss if I eat breads, even the multigrain sort.

4) Carb rotation works incredibly well for me, however I gravitate around 200 grams rather than the standard 100. I keep it between 150 and 250 grams, and that's where I see the best results.

5) My optimal amount of protein is between 80 and 120 grams. I did eat higher protein for awhile and I saw no difference. I have been eating mainly soy protein in my diet, but whey after weight training.

6) Lots of water, a multivitamin (makes me feel better), and atleast 2 servings of raw veggies every day.

7) The fewer dairy products the better my results. (I've cut out fish from my diet too, so now I'm a real veggie! Look out WarLobo, VeganLifterChick is not too far away!) ;)

8) Fat burners don't do anything but mess up my energy levels and give me panic attacks. I have tried adipo kinetix and ECA (xenadrine and stackers) and neither had an appreciable effect on fat loss. However, they both made my bank account a lot slimmer.

congrats on finding what works for you! i'm doing something similar except that i'm not a vegetarian, so i'm taking in TONS of protein in chicken breasts, fish and steak.

my only carbs are oatmeal in the morning (just can't give this up), whatever is in my post-workout shake, and the rest comes from veggies. i can't tell you what a huge difference its made cutting out breads, rice, pasta, etc.

at first it was tough, but now the diet is actually pretty easy. of course, i do throw in a cheat meal once a week to keep myself sane...hey, it used to be an entire balls to the wall gorge day at one point, but once the results started coming, the "cheating" got less and less enticing/important to me.

Princess,
The thing I never understood about cheat days is how you can distinguish them from binges in your head. Because you get to eat all of the prohibited foods, as much as you want, all at once.

Depends on how you define "cheat". If planned right, it's just a break and not a binge. If there's something you have been itching for, you don't drive yourself nuts with deprivation, you just have to wait for the day you allow yourself to eat it. ...that's how I justify it anyway. I have a cheat or refeed or whatever term people are comfortable with once every two weeks. Heading to Vegas in 2.5 weeks, so all cheats are off till then. ;)

Good point JM. Fiber is key. :D A bowl of Fiber One cereal has more than the daily requirement.

Hey Veggie....

Do you eat quorn as a protein source? Have you ever heard of it?
Good or Bad?

:)
