What was Kerry's tragic error?

Now that we all know President Bush will be re-elected, it is time for some reflection and analysis. Was Kerry's biggest mistake:

1) Flip-flopping on the war in Iraq.

2) Flip-flopping on the Patriot Act

3) Promising to raise taxes.

4) Choosing John Edwards as a running mate.

5) Trying to run on his record of Vietnam service.

6) Slow response/no response to Swift Boat ads.

7) Failure to reign in his obnoxious wife.

8) Asking the UN for a permission slip.

9) Deciding to run for President.

I think he fucked up by making such a big deal about his military record and denouncing Bush's.

Ultimately it is the issues that should be important. Even with his flip-flopping he could have stuck to the issues and had a decent chance.

Specifically the "Im a war hero and you're not" approach. He even manufactures pseudo attacks against him just to mention once more how great a war hero he apparently was. His entire political career was built off of that three month tour.

Its the same mistake the democrats made in imagining they could force feed a NE liberal with zero charisma and a nauseatingly elitist demeanor down the throats of Americans because he fought briefly in Vietnam
