what some men still think-

MsBeverlyHills

if you go to the weight training & weight lifting board- there is a thread there called "Girlfriend routine". One poster on there has posted the comment-

"What I am getting at is, women should not waste time busting ass on squats, deads and supine benching. Shit, if I didn't care about gaining and sustaining muscle mass, I would also just do massive cardio and hit up the salad bar. The gym has machines like the hip abductor and adductor for a reason"

its unbelieveable that some guys still have this out-dated opinion of women & weight lifting... amazing!

I agree.. guys look at me sumetimes as if im wasteing their time when i'm using a machine they want

How rude. Remind them that the machines are for women only anyway.

JK.

:lmao: that ain't all guys my training partner is a guy and I do the exact same work out as him. I just can't lift as heavy as him. :(

Words like that make me appreciate my man. He thinks I am total sissy if I miss a day of weights or bitch about how sore my muscles are. I'm in

This reminds me of the bodybuilding comps I've gone to see...

There are tons of huge, ripped guys (usually under 5'5") walking around with their chubby girlfriends. I always wondered where this phenomenon came from. Perhaps it's this mindset - "women don't shouldn't lift weights" - that draws the men to chicks who don't lift (or workout, for that matter) and are chubby as a result.

Don't you love when you lift a pretty impressive amount of weight at the gym and the guys just look at you like OMG what is she doing.....lol

You cant fight the power amiga. They're gonna think whatever they choose. :)

i love getting men like this in the gym to spot for me. "yeah..could you just pass me those 60lb dumbells for my shoulder press..." usually i can rep out 8-10 with someone like watching, which is better than an average of 6!

I think guys only think girls should use the hip adductor / abductor machines for their own entertainment. Particularly when the machines are facing mirrors. Otherwise, they all fear being upstaged by a girl who can lift more than they can.

I find many men don't know what to do with women who lift seriously. They either make subtle fun of me or are intimidated (or both). They talk about my muscles in a slightly condescending way... it's like they are trying to be complimentary but they can't quite get there.

I also get a lot, "Well, you don't want to get BIG, do you???" I just answer, "Hell, yes! As big as possible, thankyouverymuch." To which they have absolutely no response other than to stand with their mouths wide open. LOL.

When the "ideal female body" evolve towards a more muscular frame (rather than the skinny chicks in the magazines/TV) , men's mentality will also change

The stereotype of the weak and slim woman is still in our western culture

Untill that change, would you mind get out of the squat rack, please ? ;)

Wow what an a**!!! Men need nurturing like little boys and they seek it from woman. I guess if we take the one thing they have over us " muscles" they're still just little boys!! But sorry Big Boy move over "I need to use the squat rack"

This is true. Our mindsets are dictated by what is "popular" and "mainstream". Popular culture tells us what is "okay". You personally might not agree with it, but 99% of the population does follow it. If this wasn't true, advertising wouldn't exist.

Before panties are all in a bunch, I believe this is joke (sarcasm, anyone?). :) Pretty funny to me. :)

Have you ever notice those little things called Smileys (or Emoticons) ?

In case you don't the one I used ( ;) ) meant I was joking

BTW, I have no problem with chicks doing heavy squats (even heavier than mine)
To each his own life and power over it

Ok, It's clear to me now!! No harm done.

I know a lady who is a powerlifter and all I have to say is I prefer her physique to that of a squishy swimsuit model. She is quite feminine, attractive yet pound for pound is stronger than me...no shit! Her body won't quit either! It is quite awesome.

Now, for the outdated thinking...It is probably due to the old male ego of wanting to be the king of the jungle, tough guy protector and a woman who is just as strong as he threatens this male dominance process...We all like to protect our women, but shit, if she can throw down with me when needed, all I got to say is hell yeah.!

How many can you do?

I can do between 30 and 40 (at 230lbs)

with a 405lbs bench at 217lbs I was about 1.86 pounds per pound of body weight. I'll bet there are plenty of women out there that can out do that

Dl I was 315lbs at 217lbs which is about 1.45 lb per pound of body weight

Squats sucked at 465lbs at 217lbs which is only 2.14lbs per pound of body weight.

I know one person, can't remember which lift, but at 135 a 290 dl or squat equats to 2.15lbs per pound of body weight. Got me beat.

That too me is awesome! and I am by not the strongest around...

keep it up ladies!

Well I need to find me some females like you!!! usually I get stuck with barbies that hate to work out but spend the whole day in the malllol!!!!. But I seriously think that some guys do get intimidated by women with great amount of muscle mass. Specially smaller guys but I do prefer a fitness model or an athlete looking female then a skinny model in mags!!!

Thing is:

If you lift like him (using the same exercises, rep range), you are going to look more and more like him.

What I hate is when people find you workout and ask if you run, so I say well no I lift weights and get the OH REALLY!

Or what is better when people ask me how much I weigh and I tell them 113 and they literally do not believe me. In a sweater and jeans I look like I am small and skinny with no muscle but am really pretty cut. They can't see that so assume I am lying. Why would I say I weigh more than I do? Oh that's right I must have an eating disorder and am trying to hide it, hey I do eat "wierd" acording to them. I get this so much and it makes me mad enough to keep up what I am doing and just hope that I see them in the gym one day!!!

I love being a strong girl inside and out!!! :)

Me too!! It is nice to be able to carry stuff yourself -- heavy things like rolls of carpeting, wood, drywall, etc without help cuz it can be a pain to have to sit & wait for help from someone....

Where do you guys all train??!! My gym has all of the most supportive men ever. They are all impressed by any gains you make and most will comment to you right to your face that you look great and tell you what body parts they thought you did a great job bringing up. My gym is awesome, it's called Hardcore.... lots of competitors, probably half the gym. Everyone there is awesome, it's like Cheers, except a gym not a bar and there's no fat dudes like Norm.

Anyways, there's no top freaking 40 playin at my gym just hardcore metal and alot of weights to go with it, maybe half the gym is weights, the other half is machines, and then like 15 cardio machines. My gym RULES.

:rainbow: Sorry for all your girls' unfortunate luck.

Mshad,

I hear that alot from the girls that I date.
Here is the deal:

Muscle weighs more then fat; so a unfit, non muscular, non "obese" women may weigh 100lb (a Karen Carpenter type) whereas a women who LOOKS the same weight and looks healthier, and TONER, will look less then she weighs. She may weigh 120, but look 100 because she has less fat and more muscle.

Another point:
Conventions.
Women have lied about their weight so much that 120lb on a scale for a women means 100lb.

superqt4u2nv,

I didn't get it at first. I believe chicks should lift, and lift heavy, but should do more isolation exercises then men. Less deadlifts, heavy flat benches and squats and more heavy glute, ham, quad, etc..... so that they have that kick ass feminine form, but are hard body. I personal like Davana Medina's physique. Unfortunately, I have not had the oportunity to feel her :worried: , but she looks strong.

Compound movements are the main course of the workout and this what should be first on everyones plate no matter what sex you are the rest is all just filler.
