What legs muscles do deadlifts hit?

I was just wondering what specific thigh muscles dead lifts are supposed to target and are these done heavy or light?

Did you want to use them as a specific leg exercise?

They work everything nearly.....maybe even the whole body (thats if you include the final shrug and hold at the end...and if you do it heavy enough)

start on a lower weight to get the movement down.

then move up to a huge weight........its a powerlifting exercise...so in my eyes thats how heavy you should do it. as heavy as possible

but practice with alower weight cause it can be brutal if you mess it up.

i hope you have a strong core (abs and lower back)

Ps where in australia are you from?
tell me your location then ill tell you mine
;)

In no particular order, the deadlifts hit:

-Quads
-Glutes
-Spinal erectors
-Hamstrings
-Traps
-Forearms
-Lats
-Sphincter (Unless you just say "screw it" and let it out, like I sometimes do)

They'll also probably make you feel worked in your:
-Abs
-Biceps
-Neck
-Scrotum (If you forgot to breathe properly and overstrain yourself, you might end up experiencing the joy of dumping your entire small intestine into your sack. Fun.)

hehe

:D

Hams definitely. I always feel sore for like two or three days in my hams after doing stiff leg deadlifts. The more you bend your legs when doing them the more you also work the rest of your leg, like with a squat. I use squats for the quads and butt and use Deadlifts to target the hams.

Never felt it in my sphincter though.
