sambal olek
sriracha
melinda's habanero
grace brother's scotch bonnet
cholula

Ok, I'll admit I have heard of some of these & not heard of others......but what I use most is: Frank's Original & Green Tabasco.

all that stuff is junk...the best heat and flavor is marie sharps habanero belizean heat firey hot etc... marie sharps is the best hot sauce there is...it isnt sold in stores in us...you got to either buy from belize or find it online...i buy t by the case.heres a link to see it..
http://www.sammcgees.com/storegen/C202_136.html
but shop aorund you can find it for half the price

send some my way and i will let you know

lol
right now i am getting stuff from africa to try out
some of that stuff is overwelming

You didn't list a popular hot mexican sauce, called Salsa Buffalo, also Tapatio carried in many Mexican Food restaurants. Love those burritos but damn those are just way too bad for your health. craving one right now, [smack myself!].

:D

I picked regular tabasco 'cause that's the only I've heard of. Being Mexican, my mom's always made the bomb ass home made salsas, using bottled salsa is only a last resort. Now that I don't live with moms, I buy the bottled shit but it's usually chunky stuff.

Tapatio is good too, but lots of sodium.

When i get steamed chicken / broccoli from the chinese place i love to put their hot sause on it , that stuff is da bomb.......

that could be one of 4 things:

sirracha
sambal oleck
chinese chili garlic sauce
or chili paste

this thread makes me HUNGRY!! No one here can eat remotely hot food, except the folks that have imigrated from far flung spots.

My friends think that 'Chi Chi's hot sauce is not only great but as hot as they can handle: THE HORROR!!!

I am a big ol' chipolte fan, not so much the fruitier ones, but dig them too. I make a bunch of different sambals and blatjangs, but only get a chance to use them when my more adventurous friends come to call.

Really into thai bbq and any and all thai chillie pastes: galic, shrimp paste, lime leaf, etc. Really dig that stuff...

Did some Dave's Insanity and Sudden death, but i lose track of the pepper flavors with that stuff, just too damn hot.

Had some oil from an Ethiopian guy I know that was cloudy-thick at roomtemp (palm oil??) that was flavored with a kind of black pepper, more licorice tasting than our black pepper, but just hot enough to peel paint. Pretty crazy but good aroma.

Obiwan, you from Jamaica? I used to live in Wadadli (antigua)...

I like Crystal Hot Sauce...not for the heat, but more for the vinegar taste..
Add some garlic....its the shit...
Good in Raman Noodles also... :chomp:

I've tried many and switch too often to have a real favorite...but for me, the key is taste. There has to be a depth of flavors to the sauce for it to be enjoyable. Hot/sour/smoky/garlicy ect....

It's not listed but I LOOOOOVE Gates' extra spicy bbq sauce. Gates BBQ is a popular staple here in the KC area. They have qwebsite, if anyone's interested in trying.

There was a specialty store in the Danbury (CT) Mall that sold nothing but hot sauce. I think they closed down, though. :(

here in ottawa we have one also
some interesting stuff
there are several that you have to sign waivers before they'll sell it to you
habanero extract
lol rated at 1 million scolville units
lol now that's just WRONG!

It depends what its on I stick to fairly generic stuff

Lousiana on just about anything

Cholula on anything mexican tasting.. getting hard to find I had to nab some bottles from the mexican restraunt!

and Franks Red Hot on anything buffalo tasting... chicken cheese steak with onions peppers mushrooms and a little motz

Jamaica Hell Fire 4 in 1 or Doc's Special are both really good, lately i've been mixing PURE CAP w/ Pace "Hot" Salsa, really turns up the volume of that stuff

imo, franks red hot is by far the best tasting hot sauce around. the good thing about it is its made with pure cayenne pepper. this is awesome for shedding bodyfat cause it speeds up your metabolism. i eat a big bottle of franks each week and i find it keeps me shredded.

I agree with you on that, best tasting, doesnt burn your mouth like most hot sauses, goes great with sardines

Is hot sauce bad for you?I mean it gives you ulcers right? Is there any proof to that shit I always hear the shit is bad for you thats why I restrain but I fucking absolutely love it.

i guess it would if you ate it all the time and lots of it,but i think the peppers and stuff in it are good for you, sometimes it gives you a flaming ring of fire but oh well :)

I have the possible side effects hot sauce, 283,000 scoville units. Basically, you're not going to be able to taste any degree of hotness over 100,000. At that point, it's so hot that anything hotter you're not going to be able to tell the difference. I've sampled probably 50% of the bottles on this page http://www.chez-williams.com/Hot Sauce/hothome.htm I use to sell them at the sportsmen show.

no hot sauce is not bad for you
increasing evidence to the common person that it is actually beneficial
my homeopath actually prescribed cayenne for my ulcers 17 years ago
why it increases blood flow to the extremeties
lowers blood pressure and over promotes healing

i never ate hot food til then
now my ulcer is gone and i eat spicy food all the time
lol i now work in a thai restaurant
eat thai bird chilis and habeneros/scotch bonnets out of hand almost daily

frank's = louissiana

Seems like what you grow up with is what pulls you through. I guess that makes me partial to anything from Louisiana. I've come to like Chinese and Thai, which goes down surprizingly smooth for the amount of fire. Chipotle gets flavor points but I wish it was hotter

go to chinatown or an asian market
get a package of dried chilis labeled hottest chilis
they are dried thai bird chilis
red dark small and thin
roast them in the oven til they are dark
then pulverize them in the blender
at the restaurant we had fish sauce and hot & sour soup but you could just use water and abit of salt or soy sauce
i like to throw some fresh garlic and lime juice in
that makes possibley the hottest hot sauce i've ever had other than chili extract

making my own lately
using scotch bonnets, chipolte, thai chilis, white peppers and a secret ingredient

Well melindas is the best tasting I think but it lacks in the heat depatment.
I LOVE hot sauce and put it on everything if I can. So I would have to say the best tasting with the RIGHT amount of heat would have to be Dave's Scotch Bonnet Sauce.

Its funny how as soon as they start getting really hot which I love they lack in the taste- Its like they forget its for eating and are just trying to make it hotter?

original .... Lousiana Hot sauce, then Franks in my oppinion.
I'd like to taste that Dave's scotch bonnet if I knew where to find some.

well where i'm from its just louisiana hotsauce............. i'm a big fan of hotsauces and the spiciest one i have had was spontanious combustion...i found that out traveling in new mexico

Tuong Ot Sriracha hot chili sauce

please believe me

call em at 626-286-8328

Yeah, Sriracha is delicious, but I just realized it has WAY too much sugar...like 96 grams per bottle, and the bottle isn't all that big. Shit is weird too, I never bothered looking at the label because it doesn't even taste sugary. Sucks!

does it contain either thai red chilis or red habernos?
i make a sauce myself with those and it goes on everything i eat

As an everyday hotsauce, I like Frank's, but Cholula is great for some things too. I will cut a hard boiled egg in half and soak the yolk in cholula hot sauce or sometimes Lee and Perrins worchestershire sauce. I make a homemade veggie and beef stew that Tobasco really rocks in. Sometimes I like Texas Pete in some chili's if they are tangy to begin with, but normally I prefer the chili to just have natural heat from the peppers.
