What is the reasoning behind high fat for a low carb diet?

When you take out one form of energy, you must replace it with another. Since you cannot do this with protein (for fear of burning protein and lean muscle mass for fuel), you have to up fats to make up the deficit and provide energy. Fats are also very good for your skin, natural test levels, and provide a good feeling of satiety.

it is to get your body used to using fats for fuel, instead of carbs. If you have no carbs and low fat your body will turn protein into glucose, which is what carbs are. It will take it from both the protein that you eat and protein from your muscles.

Eat lots of fat when dieting, just make sure that they are good fats and that they are not eaten with a carb meal.
