What is the best way to get in shape for a tough martial arts class?

Hey bro,

I have had to make two big recoveries in my martial arts career. one for a shoulder surgery and one after i ruptured 2 discs in my neck.

basically i went nuts with my rehab.. i did it to a T and even better than that.. then i started up on my normal lifting routine for about a month or so then i just got back on the matt.. nothing will get your endurance up like fighting.. but just take it easy.. my first day back i didnt start fighting.. i just worked on getting my form and reflexes back and just worked on getting comfortable and getting my confidence back.. just ease into it..

if you can handle going light on the matt then i would get back on the matt as soon as your lifting is almost back in check.. say 75% of your old core lifts (Dead/squat/bench)

when you get back on the matt work on things that will force you to go at a controlled pace.. after my shoulder surgery for 2 months i worked all my techniques LEFTY now i can fight lefty or righty w/0 much difference.. i also practiced a bunch of techiques that i would normally have never practiced if i was preparing for a tourny but since i was just recoverin it was cool...

good luck

Thanks bro, I havent taken this class for about two years but Im going to start taking it when my shoulder is good to go. The instructor puts people at different levels so I wont get thrown to the wolves from the start.
