what does this mean?

What do people mean here when they say they bench a certain amount paused vs. touch and go? Do you have to pause at the bottom of the lift when you bench with a shirt or something?
 
you can do it with or without a shirt,paused jut means you bringthe bar down and hold it motionless on your chest for a sec or two...touch and go means you bring the bar down,touch your chest and press back up.:fro:

Touch and go shouldnt be confused with bouncing the bar off your sternum much as possible. The first is good......the second isnt.

Are there any advantages to pausing a bench at the bottom? Everything I've read says that the less time you hold the bar at the bottom, the faster it will come up because your muscles can elastically store a small amount of potential energy from the weight.
 
You referred to a stretch reflex. A stretch reflex can last around 2 seconds. I dont think many people pause all of the time in training unless they compete raw.

yeah... pisses me off when people say "yeah.. i bench 300", and when you see them do it the weights are bouncing off their chests. people underestimate the importance of slow controlled movement.

Ticks me off too. What people say they do in the gym means nothing. If you do it in comp. you have at least 2 judges backing you up. Not some guy pulling on the bar saying, " I didn't pull much at all. It was all you".
