What do you think of this gym

Looks like a good system for times you might not be able to make it to the gym. Personally I wouldn't rely on it all by itself. Free weights are a must in my opinion. I like including both in my workouts.

i have some free weights but have difficulty doing squats with the bar.
I don't belong to a gym, don't have the time to go.

A lot of people say they don't have time to go to the gym. I own a business and am actually there every day - unlike many business owners, I take care of my household (laundry, cooking, 3 dogs, 2 adults & 1 child) and am now moving that household across town, and I still make it a priority to go the the gym. I also have a home gym (that has much more than this one does). That being said:

1) You will get a better workout and better results being a member at a gym - I can tell you this because I have my own home equipment and was using that only up until a few weeks ago - and getting better results at the gym.

2) If you make it a priority, you will FIND time to go.

3) This equipment is very basic and will limit you as far as the results you will see.

Not trying to put a damper on this for you. Just MHO. Whatever you choose, remember it's only as important is you are willing to make it. :)

limited how? To me it looked like there were a lot of exercise choices on there. :worried: I have been looking for a long time and this one looked good to me for the $$ which i do Not have a lot of.
I truly find a hard time fitting exercise into my days, and the drive there and back and the waiting for equip. is just extra time wasted IMO. Plus i don't have the money for monthly dues, which around here all we have is a Y and it is expensive. Dh would not want me going alone plus, he wants to start working out, so we need something here at our house we can both use. He works 12 hr days and would not be able to go to the gym with me. Personally I wouldn't want to go alone anyways.
On top of that i'm a stay at home mom( 3 kids, 3 dogs), so I am needed here at home. :)
I get what you're saying though. Thanks for your comments :)

Getnfit06, I don't know what your goals are. I've been absent from this board for quite awhile. I think its great that you are willing to make that investment. Not everyone has the time or the money to pay memberships. You are doing WAY more than most of this country's population. In my opinion, if you are not going to compete (whether its Bodybuilding or Powerlifting) or want to get down to 11% (my goal is 17-18%), then I don't think it matters too much that you are using what you want to order (what's the highest weight?).

I'm looking for a treadmill because I don't need to go to the gym more than 3 days to lift and they offer limited memberships (i.e., I want to save).

I think you should look around and get a feel for the machine, in lieu of ordering it online.

Also, for squats, you can do dumbbell squats..

I have absolutely no idea on what a decent home gym would cost or what to even recommend.

But I would agree that free weights/DBs would be a MUST.

Do you have a Dick's Sporting Goods or Kay's Merchandise anywhere close to you? If you can get to one, they have PLENTY of equipment at decent prices. Dick's quality is a little better. DEFINITELY sit on and try the equipment before you buy it. Ours was originally $1400.00. We bought it on sale for $899.00. The next week, they marked it down again and we ended up getting it for $799.00.

It's a ball bearing Smith Machine that has a seated row, pulldown, pec deck and the the bench has the padded extension for extensions, it came with a preacher curl pad that switches out with the leg extension accessory also. AND it's commercial grade steel (which means it's not flimsy). I don't know what the piece of equipment your talking about costs, but for $799.00 what we have is A LOT of variety. I have a pic with the top and bottom of the equipment together, but for some reason it won't upload, but you can see what I'm talking about from these pics.

I've not seen either of those stores around here, but i will do a search.
I have dumbells, which i use but, they aren't that great for lower body work as they are not heavy enough. I really want to change my shape so i need heavier weight. I have a barbell but it reallly causes me neck pain when i squat. Since most of these types of gyms don't give u the ability to do squats , i thought this was unique, and it's fairly small.
This gym is 500 dollars, free shipping and lifetime warranty i believe. I have always read positive things about the bodysolid brand.
thanks everyone for your thought!! :)
*Nycgirl* i have posted pics on my log and i believe my goals also. I'd like to lose quite a bit of flab and gain quite a bit of muscle and really change my shape considerably.
