Lately I've been on a rampage to avoid over-processed carbs as much as possible. Ever since I've been more vigilant about avoiding them, it seems as if it's been 10x easier to avoid overeating on carbs in general.
So, when I saw this bread in the "international aisle" of this yuppie grocery store, I figured I'd try it: It's called 8-Grain Bread by a German company called Pema Vollkorn. Here are the ingredients: Rye, wheat, oats, spelt, rice, millet, barley, maize, water, yeast, salt, linseed. It's really friggin dense and totally whole-grain and comes in the shape of a heavy brick-- and it's really nutty and great with peanut butter and even tuna! Here are the macronutrients per slice: 110 cals, 1g fat (no saturated fat), 3g protein, 23g carbs (3 fiber, 1 sugar). What do you guys think? It would seem to be really low GI to me, since it's not super refined-- It seems pretty awesome as far as carb sources go-- although I can see why it wouldn't be popular in the US (it's not like the tyical white bread everyone eats).
