What do you say at a funeral?

PICK3

New member
Have to go to a funeral tomorrow for a good friend's dad. "I'm so sorry" and "he's in a better place" seem so lame.

I'm not very good at this kind of thing.

Sing Dust in the Wind......Seriously bro I'm no help. :Chef: :tuc:

Definately dont use the bullshit "im soooo sorry" crap, unless you killed him. Sympathy is a crusher to a greiving heart. Compassion is whats needed. The best is that which was said: Im here 24/7 if you need anything, anything at all, big or small.

I think saying "sorry for your loss, if you need anything let me know" while keeping the conversation light and short, is safe and polite.

hell this is my business
imagine handing them the 6000 bill and asking how would they like to pay for this

I thought the business end had to be handled before the services.

black funeral homes operate this way
I'm in a relatively small town so we don't "strong arm" for the money
we get beat out of 20-25K a year
not too bad

I would love to own a black funeral home
lots of cash money too

most of the expenses go towards operating overhead
e.g. our power bill is about a grand a month

I can't have a "president's day" sale you know
we only draw revenues when people die
and they do that once

i get it,I just was curious to if it was a take advantage of people type business or if it was more honest. and it seems like your doing enough to live, but not taking advantage of anyone. I respect that

nice

During moments of tragedy -- people don't really care what others are saying. They're too traumatized to really listen anyways.

Just don't say cheesy stuff or talk too much when they really just wanna be left alone.

If the person wishes to talk -- let them lead first.

we're a family owned business
we're cool
some of those corporate funeral homes charge astronomically and often hold a market monopoly
and they give a shit service too

on another note
while I was in school for mortuary science the professor was commenting about the high percentage of cremations in california(about 50%)

he said "dying gets in the way of having a good time"
