What are "muscle bellies" ? Can someone explain please?

Hello all!

I keep hearing the term "muscle belly" all the time. Any ideas on what it might be?

for example, how can I find out the size of my bicep muscle belly?

And does big muscle belly means lots of growth potential in there?

reply please!

thanks!

I'm going to try to answer this as best as i can..

When people use the term 'muscle belly' they're basically referring to the fullness and roundness of a muscle group.
What I've noticed is that many brother(black) bodybuilders genetically seem to have rounder fuller muscles.
Basically the muscle belly is the muscle itself.
Having a 'big muscle belly' is just a full looking muscle.

I agree with flex. I think that people are meaning the fullest part of the muscle, with the end closest to the spine or the proximal end being the insertion point and the end furthest from the spine being the distal attachment point. Been a long time since I studied this but I think that I am accurate. Maybe someone else can clarify.

Muscles attach to tendons at the joints, the tendons are smaller that the muscle, so the muscle at the middle or belle is at its largest circumference at the half way point between the two joints. like if you had a ballon with some water in it and held it streched between to fingers...well not exactly like that but similar

The "belly" is often used to describe the thickest part, but essentially it refers to the "meat" of the muscle, not the connective tissue at either end.
