Few things in creation are as beautiful or wonderful as a rainbow. It is a scientific phenomenon that can be expressed in terms of numbers associated with frequencies and wavelengths of light, and it is also an artistic object, enjoyed because of its beauty.

The Science of the Rainbow

Light dispersion spectrum:
The rainbow is based on some basic principles of physics. Isaac Newton’s famous experiment on white light utilized a clear prism—a Toblerone-shaped piece of glass or Plexiglas. White light is shone into the prism at such an angle that it bends towards the normal (vertical). On emergence from the prism, the light bends away from the new normal, but, because they are set at a triangle shape, this merely increases the bending, such that there is an actual observable difference between this bending (or refraction) for light of differing frequencies.

How light is 'split' by a prism:
Because violet light has the greatest frequency, and hence the shortest wavelength, of visible light, it is bent to a greater angle than red light, at the opposite end of the visible spectrum. The trouble with scientific statements like these is that they sound cold, but the effect of these different refractions for different frequencies is stunningly beautiful.

Have you noticed how rainbows are always opposite the sun? If you are facing the rainbow, then the sun is behind you. A similar refraction happens with spherical raindrops, but in this case, because the internal angles of the light rays are greater than the critical angle of water, the rays undergo total internal reflection before they are refracted again as they leave the water drop.

Once again, the effect is stunningly beautiful.

God’s Covenant with Noah:
What a spectacular and appropriate phenomenon it is, therefore, that God chose to use a rainbow as a sign of the covenant He made with Noah.

The covenant is really a covenant with the whole human race, whether we all realize it or not. For this reason, all the provisions of this Noahic Covenant are still in operation today. It can be referred to as the covenant of common grace because it is God’s commitment to all humanity, whether they serve Him or not.
It is a covenant that is designed to set forth the articles of good governance. And we should note that God takes ownership of this covenant—He describes it as “My covenant” (Genesis 9:11) and the sign of the covenant is “My rainbow” (Genesis 9:13).

You are so exhausting. The covenant that God made with Noah, as symbolized by the rainbow, was that He would never again destroy the world by water, that's it. That still leaves fire, meteorites, earthquakes and anything mankind can come up with.

As for God being anti-gay ... the term used was "abomination" which meant something totally different in that culture and time from what it means now. It would probably be more accurate to translate it to "taboo". In regards to the Biblical restrictions it stemmed from the Hebrew attempt to separate themselves as much as possible from the culture/practices of the Greeks and Romans (and most polytheistic societies that found homosexuality/bisexuality acceptable).

If God was so vehemently anti-gay then it wouldn't be so prevalent in the animal kingdom :whatever:

Here's a thought Typo. Why don't you try reading the spiritual material of some other religions? Say, Buddhism or Hinduism. Try something non Christian based. I've read the Bible (including apocryphal texts) know Qabala, have read some of the Quran and Book of Mormon, have more than a passing familiarity with Buddhism and various forms of Hinduism and I base my opinion about the Bible on the fact that it's about as pertinent to our times as any of the newspapers Ben Franklin printed in the 1700s would be today.

The texts were meant to create cultural cohesiveness in and separateness of the Hebrew tribes thousands of years ago. They are myths, allegories and genealogies. Dead texts written in dead languages for people who died long ago. Dead spiritual concepts that promote static, stagnant spirituality and xenophobia, not spiritual evolution.

You asking me, I think he was either A) an Ascended Master and I suspect a lot of what he said that would have promoted further human evolution has either not been discovered, was lost, or was discovered and destroyed due to the fact it would have undermined the power and authority of the church;

or

B) He was crazy/liar/con artist/fanatic [pick one] who, with the help of his apostles, was trying to incite Jewish uprisings against Roman authority and the Hebrew religious leaders who were paid by and answered to Rome, to the point he was willing to die for his cause.

Dude, there is a Religion and Philosophy forum. Go there, search for my posts, I've probably commented on most of those things one way or another:

Short answers:
1. I believe in evolution ... little shady on how the evolution got started. Accident, God-being or little green men, who knows?

2. The world is about 4 billion years old if I remember correctly. Since I am not a creationist I believe the scientists on this one.

3. Big bang ... ah, that's significantly more complicated and requires you to understand some Qabala which I don't have time or energy for. Basically, that thing which you call God created itself in a huge outpouring of light/energy/matter.

4. If you really understand my opinion on the potential options RE: Christ then you'll know I don't believe he's ever coming back.
