Went fishing this morning, nabbed a perch and a catfish

I woke up around 6 AM today and couldn't get back to sleep so I decided to go fishing. I stayed at my parents lakehouse last night and have never fished there so I figured I may as well give it a try.

I started out with a couple of beers while fishing on the dock but after about 45 minutes of not getting any bites I decided to load up the paddleboat.

I went inside and grabbed my bubbler, bottle of Sudden Discomfort, digital camera, more nightcrawlers and leeches, and ventured off on the paddleboat to a more secluded part of the lake. After 2-3 mixed drinks and a bowl of high grade out of the bubbler I couldn't have cared less if I caught a minnow or a walleye.

I ended up catching a catfish, perch, and a couple bullhead, but only ate the perch.

Here's pics of the cat and perch. Tonight I'm taking the boat over to a connecting lake and will try my luck at some walleye.

Right on. I went fishing Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at various places. Caught a channel cat out of my dad's farm pond that went about two pounds, caught one out of the river that went about a pound and another wee tiny one that was only about 10" long. Got a couple of smallmouth bass and lots of sunfish (mostly bait-size) as well. Fun stuff.

I still have about a dozen nightcrawlers in the fridge. My chickie roommate seems to be handling it OK so far. :D

You live up north somewhere? You mentioned using leeches for bait and catching a couple of bullheads...two telltale signs of a yankee fisherman. :)

that's some "good eatin".....can't buy fish that is that fresh in the grocery store.

Yep yep. That's the truth. I'm pretty sure that farm raised catfish has a higher fat content too.

Yeah, I'm up north. I don't fish all that often but it's so relaxing it's almost addicting. Once I retire I plan on fishing all the time. As for the bullhead, they're plentiful in this lake. I wasn't tryin to catch 'em but they'll eat anything. I mainly use leeches for walleye and occasionally bass if they're not biting on nightcrawlers.

That's funny you mentioned 'yankees'. I've never had someone refer to me as a yankee til the past couple days. The other night a guy was in the bar I was tending and asked for a double jack & coke. After I poured it he said, "G'damn, that's what I love about you yankees, you really know how to pour a drink. Down south I ask for a double and I barely get a shot."

I caught a ton of bullheads when I lived up in Iowa. They could be pretty fun, actually.

Used to catch nightcrawlers and sell 'em for $1 a dozen too. :D

Ah, the memories.
