Weights or cardio?

Ladies, what do you find to be more effective for fat loss in the gym – weights or cardio? I started going to the gym 2-3 months ago, and I noticed that I enjoy so much more weight training and not cardio. Am I the only one like that, or this is normal?

That is something very individual – my wife is very similar to you – she hates running, and she barely runs. But she likes doing weights, and as a matter of fact, she gets gains really fast. Bottom line is – do what you enjoy doing.

I would say that technically weight training would be better for fat loss assuming that you trained at a high intensity as to keep your heart rate up. When you do that it is basically cardio anyways but you also get a metabolism boost for 1-2 days while your body is repairing the muscle. The best would be both but if you had to pick 1 I would do weights. If you were the opposite and enjoyed cardio but not weights then I would say to do the cardio. In the end whatever you enjoy you will be much more likely to stick to.

Both are important but weight training is MUCH more effective for fat loss. Here's why

When you do an hour of cardio, you burn X amount of calories.

When you do an hour of weight training, you burn Y amount of calories. However, your metabolic rate is elevated for 48-72 hours after the weight training workout because your body has to rebuild and repair all the muscle you broke down during the workout.

The net calorie burn for weight training is way higher then cardio.
