Weighted Hyperextensions ?

whats the easiest way to do these? I've seen people holding the weight to their chest, but also on their back . . .
 
It's kinda hard, but I hold a plate on my back.. never thought to try it with a bar, that would probably work better though. Great excercise though, I love weighted hypers.

I have seen people hold a plate across their chest.

I personally do not use weight on hyperextensions. I would rather use higher reps between 20 and 30.

I am able to build strength and mass in the lower back by using deadlifts, stiff leg deads, and heavy good mornings. I treat hyperextensions similar to ab exercises.
 
explosive weighted hypers is my exercise of choice for beating up the erectors in a safe manner, as well as trashing the hamstrings
