Water - I hate it! (Ohhh I'm gonna get flamed!)

Everywhere I look for Bodybuilding information people stress on the importance of drinking water and lots of it. However I can’t stand to drink it. I’ll drink a small amount from the water fountain in my gym between sets but that’s it. I couldn’t imagine slamming down a whole glass of it or having it with a meal. I drink tons of skim milk, all sorts of fruit juices, and sometimes Iced Tea (The Canadian kind with a shit load of sugar). All these alternatives to water contain a large amount of carbs that I don’t want to be taking in. Can anyone think of any better alternatives to water or is this adequate?

Anyone else have this problem?

I feel sorry for ya bro

Get in touch with your body and you will realize that water is what you need above all else for LONG TERM health. In the short term you can get away with almost anything........

yeah bro - sorry to say - there's really no way around it. Perhaps try some water with a few drops of lemon juice ? Maybe some homemade ice tea with carbless sweeteners?
But really, you HAVE to drink water. Get used to it, and lower the amount of crap you drink little by little so you get accustomed to this torture.

switch to those 0 cals flavored waters its a big step up from the sugar loaded drinks you having now and they taste great.

just get the cheap non-brand type then there like 39cents for a 16oz bottle.

Hmmm, I thought these boards weren't about health. Anyway, stupid question here, but drinking orange juice, milk, etc aren't you getting the water? And what Impact does getting water have on mass? I know that muscle is, what 75, 80% water? But how do ya know if you aren't getting enough water? And are you sugesting that you will yield substantial gains by drinking 1.5 gals of drinking water verses, lets say, 1/2 gallon or less?

Your body uses water when it burns fat. Your muscles will also look flat rather than full if you are dehydrated. Plenty of athletes dropping dead lately from dehydration.

You know you are getting enough water when your urine is clear. I go to the bathroom a good 6x per day...inconvenient but the results are there.

Fruit juices do not contain enough water and are high-GI carbs as well...I avoid it other than post-workout. Soda is a diuretic and certainly doesn't qualify as water.

Don't feel bad. I hate it too.:)

Finaly, Someone else who doesn't like it. I Get a lot of friends saying things like "How could you not like the taste of water, it has no taste!" Maybe its the no taste thing I can't get past? Either way thanks for all the great suggestions guys.

Water does have taste...it either taste nasty (like most tap)...or it tastes clean (filtered).

Water is good stuff, just drink it...don`t be a girly man.

I didn’t like water until I started buying bottled water; silly part is I thought that was the biggest scam……….until I started drinking it. There is a difference, put a water filter on the sink and filter the water again to remove residual heavy metals.
I hated water, when I started taking a PPA water was all I wanted. I would do two and three pots of coffee a day, sodas, more coffee………hurt like hell at the gym and hated to go. I only drink water now, cant stand the taste of cola or coffee (my husband thought I was possessed). I hardly eat out any more, as most everything is too rich or sweet. I go do 60 min of cardio now and an hour to two hours of circuit lifting. I rain sweat but I don’t hurt when I exercise now and the lactic acid that once built up in my muscles stays flushed. Working out feels realllllly gooood and I know it’s the water. If you can change your view on how you feel about water you may find it’s just what you really wanted all along.

Like the lady said!

water is the best. I piss at least 6 times a day too. Im addicted to it. I keep a water bottle full of it with me all the time. and take drinks from it all day long.

Ive never heard of anyone not liking water, it doesnt taste of anything?!!?

just wait til you descover tuna, mmmmmmmmmmmm

I never understood people who say they can't drink water. It boggles my mind, it's the most natural thing for you to drink. Have you ever seen an animal that didn't like to drink water?

It's all in your head dude.

Yummm. I'm glad I live in the Canadian Maritimes & can get great water right out of my tap. Crisp, clean & cold. Gotta love it.

Water... it does the body good.

I never thought I would love and crave water so much as I did prepping for my first bb contest -- now I kill about about 2 gallons / day. The other thing about getting serious about bb is that I pretty much stopped eating because I enjoyed certain foods. Now I eat because I need the fuel, what I eat will give me the optimal stuff to achieve my bb goals -- after a while it just becomes a way of life. Trust me, if I had a choice between a can of albacore & a big fat burger, you KNOW which one I would take, but I also know which one I would kick myself for eating once it was over.

Now its pretty much a lifestyle. I like the way I feel when I drink lots of water - I'm keeping my system flushed and I can pound out some pretty fantastic workouts! I get really pissed when I dont' have the trusty water bottle w/ me actually....

I can't stand plain water either...unless I'm extremely thirsty. I still try to drink a good amount of it...not as much as I should though...
