wanting to get pregnant?

So I'm new to this forum, thanks for all the information you've shared already!
I was trying to read through and search the forums, but most people who have amenorrhea are happy about it since they aren't trying to conceive anyway.
A little back info, I haven't had my period in 7 months. It HAS been nice, I won't lie, but now I've back off my training and off of 'everything' and it still hasn't returned. I have read conflicting stories that yes you can ovulate without a period, and no you can't.. which I'm sure that depends on the individual. My husband and I def would like to try for a baby, and basically already have (just in case I am one of the lucky ones) and timing wise, the sooner the best with our work and school and all. I have an appt with my ob in august, but until then... wondering if any of you have lost your period in this sport, and how long it took to come back? If it came back naturally or if you took anything to jump start it? Or even better, if you have or know anyone who got pregnant in this situation?
Thanks so much!

I lost mine for about 9 months back when i was training heavily and restricting calories. When i started eating more (more than 1200 cals a day) and doing less cardio (less than 1.5 hrs a day), my cycle came back. How long has it been since you have made changes? I would say you dont need to cut back on lifting at all, but get enough calories/proper nutrition. Don't do more than an hour of cardio a day (I dont know what your training regimen is like, just saying).

good luck

Getting pregnant is not always easy. We tried for 9 months to get pregnant and went to the doctor. He said that wasn't too unusual. He put me on a mild fertility drug and in six weeks I was pregnant. By the way, my husband said that the trying part was the best part.

I've lost my period for long periods of time before due to exercise/eating habits. Once it took 6 months of good behavior before it came back....sometimes it just takes a minute for the body to rebound.

I lost mine for about half of a year in my early 20's from dieting... took some meds to get myself ovulating again and it only took one cycle. I vowed to never let that happen again...I was too scared to mess with my fertility...

CLou, do you remember what you took? I am coming up on 6 years without!

No...I don't remember, I'm sorry. Have you told your doc that?

Yeah... They're kind of confused. Also, there's no real point in my going through Hormone Therapy if I'm not going to keep enough fat on my body. When I'm done competing I will do it but for now my priorities are a little off.

I mention it here only because I think it's important for women to know that the effects of overtraining can be real and permanent.
