For those who don't visit the diet board much, here's one of Anthrax's great posts.

It covers what leptin does in the body, and explains why we need refeeds every now and then whilst on diet. (For TF women too, it explains why adequate calories are needed for fat burning.)
I strongly recommend following the link he gives to the original article, and then follow the link in THAT article to the section on BMR, if you're having problems figuring out how many cals you should eat.
