Urine Test for Public Assistance?

I have a question, not only for Douglas County, but for the entire state of Oregon. Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me, I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as they see fit. In order for me to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test, which I have no problem with.
What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check, because I have to pass one to go earn it for them?

Please understand, I have nothing against helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sit on their butt. Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

Preemptive Karma: Urine Test for Public Assistance?

the problem i forsee is this...people are gonna do drugs and need assitance...if we don't give them assitance, they aren't gonna stop getting high and all the sudden become respectable
they are still gonna need food/housing/heating...and without government help, they'll just use crimey ways to get what they need.
so we're basically held hostage

i used to audit some housing projects in pittsburgh. . .residents got caught with drugs, they got tossed. . .i'm guessing they all found some place else to live. . .

Yup. We should drug test for public assistance and for public education. Why would you fill a classroom half-full of kids on drugs? Teachers don't need that and the few students there to learn sure don't need that either.

Don't forget the athletes too. And anyone else living on government assistance (roadwork, public transit, etc). Ah well, let's just test everyone.

I actually think you're on a good idea here. The only problem would be to label which drugs where bad. For example, I would ban steriods and punish those people as well as the drinkers.

I'd be for it if alcohol testing was included.

In some fields, athletes are already tested! <gasp>

How dare they put some bright young college student's professional sports career at risk just because he likes to mix-up lines of coke and oxycontin and snort a rail or two! How dare they!

Interesting point.....but think about this. Those checks are either spent(with next day pay promises and begging) to the dealers the day before they come out or the whole check is gone the day it comes out. Either way that is only 1 day they aren't commiting crime to get their shit. Unfortunately, where I used to live this was the case 9 out of 10 times.

Damn good counterpoint! Its not like an addict doesn't burn-through that check in a day.

How much crack could crackhead smoke......................if a crackhead could smokeup a welfare check......
How much wood could a woodchuck chuck........you get my point.
That check probably lasts half a day...........maybe less. then it is back to shop lifting at CVS, pimping out the bod, breaking into cars/apartments and holding people up at ATMs.

As long as he includes drano as part of the snorting mix...
