upper bicep thickness

Is there any exercise that will increase the thickness of your upper bicep?? Imean that part that is closest to the shoulder.

Bro, I really dont think you can really hit the 'upper' bicep part with a specific exercise.. however there's two parts-- the Brachialis, and Biceps brachii, when you do a curl-- both comes into play.

I would say probably the Brachialis fills the upper-outer part of your bicep.

I'd go with Hammer Curls, Preacher Curls, and Barbell Curls bro.

people say that excercises can't change the shape of the muscle. but i find that when i do hammers my muscle shape changes immediately. i get a peak near my shoulder that i dont get with any other bicep excercise. so im adding weight every week to my hammers to try to bring out the peak more. ill let you know how its working as i progress. right now im doing hammers with 20lb dumbells (my biceps are pretty small)

The key is to build a larger muscle before worrying about deficiencies. You will not be able to specifically target the upper biceps. The biceps are small and do not require extensive work. Those who are performing over 6 sets of bicep work make me laugh. . . .because their arms are small and overtrained.

i agree w/ louden - i prefer to use minimal sets with heavier weight. i find the more i do the less they grow.

acualy if u lay on a flat bench with dumbells in each hands and curl them it hits the upper part of the bicep..the part that inserts into the shoulder...and yes u can target a certain part of a muscle..if that wasnt true that how come a closer grip on some exercises hits the lower lats more i.e closegrip chins or pulldowns and v-bar pulldowns hit the upper lats more...and also why is it that if u only bench press and decline bench press u can end up with "bitch tits".....

what we're saying is that you can't completely isolate a certain portion of the muscle fiber w/o hitting the rest - and i have no idea where you got the idea that hitting flat bench and decline gives you bitch tits........

shape of muscles is mainly determined by genetics. some people have biceps that extend from the elbow all the way up, some have a gap from the start of their bicep to their elbow and a thick gap between the shoulder and bicep. its all different.

To make a long story short, a muscle fiber experiences tension across its entire length. When you yank on a rope, you expect the other end to come towards you.

So, upper and lower biceps are the same muscle fibers, therefore you can't selectively grow the upper part. Upper and lower chest, by contrast, ARE different fibers, so you CAN selectively grow the upper or lower parts.

(Disclaimer: This was REALLY simplified :D )

I like to work my biceps with a lot of reps with some heavy weight
if I am doing preacher curls, barbell curls on the preacher bench, standing barbell curls, hammer curls, then I usasully some cable work?
