Tuna & mercury

Fantômas said:
If you eat a lot of fish in general, get a merc blood test. When I was eating fish almost exclusively, (1-4 cans of tuna a day) I thought I'd be fine, but asked for it on some bloodwork, just to see. Where ~5 micrograms per litre of blood is normal/safe, I was sitting around 45. Figure I'll be lucky to not have long term nerver damage or something....

Why did you eat your old batteries ?

you're fucking kidding me
are you pulling our leg?

Nope. I was fucking shocked. Since gone veg (as per egg post) and they're back to ~2. But that was some serious toxicity. Doc says she has never seen anyone with it that high. 'Course, they don't test for it very often.

you stopped eating tuna and your levels went back down from 45 to 2????

Took 6-8 months to get levels back down to 2. It was almost 3 years of daily of tuna - chronic exposure. Don't get me wrong, I ate other fish too (like the swordfish and salmon and what-all), so I'm sure all of it was contributing to it. If you're worried, get a blood test. best case scenario you find out that you're not in danger. Worst is that you find out you need to change diet *now*. Figure it's good to know either way.

lol
mercury scare again
y'all need to chill
did you read what phantos said caused his levels of mercury?
4 cans a day for 3 years plus other fish consumption (swordfish, shark tuna and marlin are relatively high in mercury)

most people do not eat that much fish
and 45 ppl is in the warning zone
60+ is the danger zone
signs of mercury poisoning is rapid hair loss, severe headaches, blotchy dry skin

my diet has been primarily 30% seafood and 40% veggies all my life
never been concerned about mercury

if you are that concerned about it include more foods beneficial for the liver ( your last defense against anything) foods such as artichokes and fennelbulbs
or do a liver clense once a month

western medicine tends to be reactive i believe to be healthier one needs to be proactive
eat clean
eat more organic
take greater care with the foods you eat
with fish before you cook it pare away the "bloodline" on the fish...that is the really dark area of the fish usually closest to where the bone was or on salmon against the skin that is where most of the toxins accumulate in most fish and stay away for livers like our livers they filter out the toxins

Exactly. It wasnt *just* tuna. In fact, canned, chunk light tuna has the least amount of merc of any wild fish because it is killed very young and has no chance to accumulate much mercury into it's muscle tissue. Wasn't intended to cause a scare, just to make aware.
