ok FDA recommends ONLY 1 can a tuna per week due to high mercury content. I have been eating 2-3 cans a day and I know others consume much more than 1 can a week also... so how dangerous is this?

ive not seen the studies that the FDA had to propose the 1 can wk limit.

It's only 1 can per week (or preferably, none) if you are pregnant. Albacore tuna has a lot more mercury in it than chunk light tuna (which is a smaller species). If you can avoid albacore, you'd cut back on mercury exposure by using other species. Just don't eat yellowfin tuna as it contains almost as much as albacore.

Mercury is neurotoxic. It can be fatal in high doses, cause chronic conditions in lower doses (everything from cancer to mental abnormalities), etc. Small doses can affect brain development in fetuses and children.
