What constitutes "abuse" is obvious relative between men & women, however they can both fuck up --- women can blow the balance of testosterone to the point of pushing androgeny, but for men, they are messing w/ their base hormone levels and that can be very similar to women trying to find the correct balance of estrogen / progesterone in a birth control pill - e.g. depression, etc.

And the end of the day, it is still education and paying attention to your health, your diet & your training before putting all your expectations on the drugs.

The HBO thing was interesting. The one doctor guy who totally opposes steroids didnt' give a solid response to "why not". There are degrees of abuse and use for the wrong reasons & yes you do need to pay attention to the behavioral / mood results of it as well as the health impacts (e.g. high blood pressure, cholestrol, etc.), but it was interesting seeing somethign that looked like some real reporting vs. Katie Couric saying "OMG STEROIDS ARE KILLING ARE CHILDREN!".
