Training While On Gear

Ok bro's I have been working out hard for about the past year and a half.. I ran one cycle of test cyp 200mg..one stick a week.. i gained about 12 lbs.. Im 6"2" 204lbs... not sure on the body fat but i stay pretty lean.. Question is- i haven't took a week off from lifting since i have been into it.. i usually train 6-10 days straight and then take a day off.. I was talking to my old strength training coach from high school football a week ago and he said i would get better gains if i took more days off.. So how many days do most of you guys train and take off? thanks

I train 4 days a week very hard, and take 2 days off to recover. Like this:

2 on.
1 off.
2 on.
1 off.
2 on.
1 off.

Etc.

In our quest for more size we always think more is better.More food(we end up fat)steroids(we piss or pass 50% of it)more training sessions(we over train).I think training each body part once a week is plenty.as long as you REALLY train it.we grow when we rest and eat.You can get by with more sessions when your young.the best cycle ive found is 3 on 1 off 2 on 1 off.every week one bodypart gets trained twice and the rotation continues.The main thing i cant stress enough to the guys and girls i train is rest!I know the off days can be hell but just enjoy it.as far as the gear goes just take it when its time training or no training.Train,eat,sleep and grow.
 
4 on & 1 off works well 4 me. I dont do high volume though either. If I did I would need more rest, even on gear.

Tue - Train
Wed - Optional - Train every other week
Thur - Train
Fri - Off

If your one of those guys(nothing wronge with that) that has to be in the gym.save calves and forearms for "off" days and hitem both.calves can be worked more often.Im sure forearms too.ive just never really studied forearm recuperation that much.
 
i hit every body part twice a week, and abs 3 times. mon-sat i lift for 1 hour and 15 mins, and run for 30 mins sunday off. when i work each muscle i fucking destroy it, but 72 hours is plenty of recovery time for me. as far as overtraining, i think for someone whos been training for years that overtraining is ALMOST impossible, not completely but almost. and when on gear i think its even less likely to happen.
 
It all depends on how intensilly you train, and on your body. Some of my good bro's do 6 on 1 off when on the sauce, seems to work for them. 3 on 1 off when not.

I'm a fairly young guy, and i train every other day on my upper half. one day i wil do chest, triceps and shoulders because they all work together, take a day off, and then back, traps, lats, bi's and forearms. i throw in a core work out in between there once a week. i do my core hardcore, so i do it once a week.

needless to say, in the last 6 weeks i have put on 15 lbs natty by eating like crazy. with a high metabolism i stay lean. i'm 6'2" and 195 lbs and about 12% body fat. i just started a tbol/test/var cycle, and i'm only a week into it. haven't seen much yet, but i'm sur in a couple of weeks i will be up there :-0 i want to hit 215 after PCT. that would be the shit. with the var i'm hoping to drop to 9% BF along with my diet and training.
 
I train 3 days a week, on a 4 day split. This gives me 9 to 10 days rest between body parts.
After 18 years of training, last November 17th I pulled my all time best deadlift at a bodyweight of 315 with visible abs.
Unless you have super human natural recovery abilities, I highly recommend having more rest days than training days.
If I knew 18 years ago what I know now - - - damn!

Dude, man, lol.

It really depends on your body and training style. I almost always do lower body and legs twice a week, but I don't train like a BBer. Regardless, I can't see your training sessions being optimal if you're going 6-10 days straight unless you have several "arm days" in there or something.

Have you trained with different splits? How did they work compared to your current one? If you haven't used other splits, do it. It's very important that you find what works best for you.

I train 5 days on 2 days off. I dont know how you guys that train 3 days on 2 off etc can get all your body parts in. I spend between 1hr & 1.30hrs in the gym with very little rests between sets & exercises & I still have trouble giving small body parts like calfs the 2 sessions they need in a week.
 
While on I train hard 5 times a week, take a day off and use the spare day for forearms, calves, abs and cardio.

What kind of splits do you guys do?
 
It all really depends what your goals are.
If your training for power/explosiveness, then split your workouts into upper and lower body days. Sounds like your a baller so this is what you want. For example...
MONDAY - upper (heavy lift) TUESDAY - lower (heavy lift) THURSDAY - upper (lighter lift) FRIDAY - lower (lighter lift)
The reasoning behind this is to give your muscles longer rest so when you do decide to workout your at maximum potential, thus building explosive muscles. When you do your workouts, only keep to 5 exercises between 45mins to an hour, hard intensity. Keep to Olympic lifts, squats (ass to the ground), bench etc. to use as many muscle groups as possible in one exercise. Cardio days off, abs every workout day.

If you want a cut look, then do what the others on the board are saying...5xweek, split each day into a specific muscle group. 3 or 4 exercises per group.

I've been lifting 15 years, so I have learned what my body needs. I do hit calves twice a week, but forearms only once as it would hinder my other lifts. On my "off" days, I'm off, no lifting.
 
Yes, you should take more time off. Over training like that does nothing but get you injured. Trust me, I've done it! =(
 
I'm old. Well older than most. Dave Draper, former Mr Universe, is older than me. He has several work out styles. I like his Push/ Pulls/Off routine:
One warm up set. 3 work sets. 1 minute rest between.
6-8 reps. Mon.& Tues. Then 8-12 reps Thurs & Friday

Monday - Do all your pushing excercises (extentions), head to toe. 1 hour
Tuesday - All pulling (contractions) full body. 1 hour
Wednes day - OFF.
Thurs - Pushes
Friday - Pulls

This way every body part gets hit twice a week. 2 heavy days. 2 light days.
Legs, chest, back, shoulders, arms.
