training for TALL guys

Hey, I am 6'8" and have been working out for quite some time now. A dude told me he think tall guys should train differently, but just how different he didn't know.. personally I think it's bullshit.. but what is your opinion to this subject ? thx.. !

hmmmm....well you are VERY tall, im quite tall at 6'3" but you're REALLY tall. I dont think tall guys train differently, maybe he meant that some exercises are harder for tall guys (like deads or squats)....i dont know

Yeah I know Im a big beast, heh heh ! :D Do any of you tall guys got bench probs.. ? I must say this is my weak area cause of my long donkey arms.. I prefer incline bench over normal, what about you? As I see it there's both ups and downs being this tall, sometimes it's just so frustrating to go shopping and getting that much attention isn't always fun (disco's can be a living hell) :fro:

It is much tougher to pack size on a tall guy. Arnold talked about problems with his legs in his book. He worked his ASS OFF to get the legs to compete. Ever notice that he carried all his added height in his legs? I am also very tall and have worked out for years. Height really hits your bench and squats if you go deep. A 30" arm lifts twice the weight that a 15" arm does. This is rudimentary physics but don't say this to the midgets. They got small brains.:mix:

I don't think your training methods or excercises would have to differ that much from a shorter athletes program. I recall Charles Poliquin's remarks about b-ball players he was training, who were all intimidated to hit the weight room because of their lack of mass and poor bench weights. But when he showed them how to deadlift - they found they surpassed other lifters and added some mass.

Find what excercises work best for you and exploit them.

The point about leverages being against you is true to a certain extent - but don't use that as an excuse.

Also, a 6'5" guy with the same amount of muscle as a 5'5" guy will look a lot thinner because his muscle is spread over a larger area. This is probably a big disadvantage of tall body builders.
