Training for my first 5K

What is the best way to increase my time...I can do the total miles but want a better then 11 min miles......
 
join a track club.. doing middle distance, lots of 4 x 1000m or 5 x 800 m, try and do a long run once a week and interval training twice a week.

The only way to get down to a sub 20 minute 5k is to do these kind of interval training

My secret formula is an excellent supplement to help you do just that. You just have to close your eyes and suck it out of a tube.

No, seriously, if you have some discipline, you can just get a routine off of the net. It's pretty straight forward. If you want to get serious in terms of finding some local folks and getting some tests done and a heart rate monitor, etc. etc., you can do that, too.

The best way to increase your time is beer and Twinkies. If you want to decrease it I suggest intervals on a treadmill. Alternate 0.5mph above your current race pace with recovery periods below current pace.
 
Im running my first 5K this weekend and then will at least have a taste for the whole thing and go from there...I figure what the heck...Ill just do it
 
if the race is 5k, make sure you can run 6-7ks at your 11 min mile pace. when you get the miles down no problem start sprinting intervals to increase your distance. for instance, go to a track and do:

1 mile warmup 11 mins easy
400 meters jog, 100 meters sprint
repeat 4-6x
1-2 mile fast run
 
well, did the bouncing of your tremendous boobaloos leave you with black eyes or what?
 
I'm training for a 5K now and here is what the coach has me doing week 6 of a 10 week preparation.

mon/wed/fri running 25 minutes

saturday 30 minute run

tues/thurs 30-40 minutes cross training.

coach is a big name coach for 5k up to marathon.

Training is good....next 5k is next weekend....working on speed training and endurance. My next goal is an indoor tri.....so I start learning to swim better after this race...
 
You sig says you are going to do a triathlon. Indoor? What are the distances? I have not ever heard of one being inside.
 
lol 50 meter run, 30 mins bike machine, 20 meter slip and slide.

swimming with waterwings lol


NO......its 1/2 mile swim which is 37 laps in the pool, 10 miles on the spin bike and then 5K on the treadmill...they don't count transition times because it would take to long and you would be running up and down the stairs...lol...But it is at the YMCA
