1) Anyone who doesn't know how to handle a stuck gas pedal needs to surrender his/her license. Anyone who has never had to deal with a stuck gas pedal, needs to learn because it will happen some day. In my case, it was a 6,000 pound 1967 Lincoln 4-door convertible with lousy brakes and a loose front end, AND the pedal jammed after I took off from a green light. Simple: I didn't panic; I shut the key off and put it in neutral, pulled over, unjammed the linkage, and went on my way. I didn't find the nearest thing to hit so that I could scream "FAULTY PRODUCT" and sue Ford for free money.
2) This is just another volley of corporate warfare. Unionized US automakers are jealous of Toyota since it can afford to build and sell a better car for less money. With (some, not all) lazy-ass workers, who cannot be fired in most cases, and now under Saint Obama's thumb, GM and Chrysler are handcuffed to a tree while Toyota throws tomatoes at them.
