To all individuals who do martial arts or any other form of combat styles....

What does your training split look like including the days you practice your fighting style? I'm taking Krav Maga and I'm getting sore as hell from it which I'm sure I will get used to. It's just that bodybuilding and martial arts is a difficult mix. At least for me now. All this controlled reps from bodybuilding combined with ballistic and conditioning training from my fighting style makes recovery more difficult. Plus it leaves the joints more sore than normal. Advice.

I teach Kenpo 4-5 dys a week...and fight on the "underground scene".....you are right it is a very tough mix....but it can be done....when I am sparring it usually does not affect my training.....but after a "fight" there have been times I couldn't train for two + weeks.....Do you live in L.A.? Krav Maga is an awseome art...just not very widspread....I myself being a Jew....would love to study....but it can't be found in the midwest....how far along are you? Incidentally... I am 6'1" 252 -272 depending on the time of year....265 right now due to 500 mgs of test and 400 mgs of EQ for the next 7 weeks.....anyway...if somebody tells you that big guys or "bodybuilders" aren't flexible enough tell them to look me up... he he.....I got something for their candy asses:p

I usually alternated my weight training days with MA...On the days I trained BJJ,I would not lift,as BJJ is basically like a wrestling workout,so your whole body is resistance training(albeit to a lesser degree).I cut back my weight training to 3 days per week.

I started studying martial arts when I was 14. I'm 44 now.

Originally I would study martial arts classes 6 days a week and go to the weight room 2-3. Now I hit the weights 5 days a week and fight 3-4.

I've found that I break things down by exhaused body part. I don't do any kicking or grapling until a day or two after leg day. (I hit the heavy bag boxing after cooking my legs.) Then I work kicks on chest and arm day.

It actually seems to help me to rotate my fighting style focus throughout the week.

Damn, i'd love to take some form of martial arts. I've been thinking about it for the last year. Just need the money. :(

Maybe soon. :)

I trained Hwa rang do for 6 years or so when I was younger and now that I haven't been doing it for years, I am SO stiff. I am stiff everywhere. Most of it is genetic though. Even when I was training and stretching alot I still would get hurt alot by over stretching a body part. I can't even do squats right now because my arms won't stretch that far back. It sucks man. :(

pit I'm new to Krav Maga but I love it! Definately brutal and "real." I took tae kwon do and Ishinryu karate for several years in the past but this is nothing like it. Maybe because this fighting style is not really an "art" but made for pure combat. I sighned up for the year already I'm so hooked. Some of these drills though are tough on my shoulder joints. Being 220 pounds at 5'10 doesn't help.

BTW - I'm from the east.

Want more info.

They have all the locations as well listed on there in the U.S.

PT: Wait till you take your first belt test in Krav... I've never been through anything even close in my life.

This is the gospel. I wasted years in different martial arts classes that turned out to be little more than dancing classes. It took me years to see that for aplicability boxing, kick boxing, and jujitsu were tops. I haven't studied much of Krav... only seen a few classes... but I've heard very good things about it.
