Way to go Radar. I've been a gym-hound for over 20 years but with too many gaps.

Another 14 years for Gold. We're rooting for ya!

RADAR Rocks

Radar, that's awesome - congratulations on kickin' ass and takin' names throughout the 36th year of training, and here's wishing the best for your future work.

May we all take a little inspiration from you to continue in our own quest for excellence! May you have 36 more!

so you were 18 when you first started !!! i was 17 and 95 lbs heavier now after 16 yrs working out ...sure hope i can get anywhere close to your avatar !!

Congrats RADAR!!!! Something to be proud of.. That's dedication..

What have you noticed change in training over the years? Im assuming just sticking to the basics?? What advice do you have for us trainers that think there is always some better training style or split right round the corner??

!!!!!congrats radar!!!!! you really give all of us here on E.F. something to look for and goals to meet with that many years of you traning.

I Have tried the HIT , Heavy Duty, 5X5 all of them ,they all have threir place, some of the best gains were the use of using chains on the bar , the bar got heavier as you lifted up more of the chain.
I was also fortunate enough to listen to "Dead men tell no tales" about 20 yrs ago by a forsenics Doctor He stated that the majority of people died was from a deficientcy
Thats where i learned to incorporate jello into my diet and at my age i do not have any joint problems.
I've also learned to train smarter, taking sufficient time to warm up after ripping a bicep.
finally in closing i would just like to say thanks to you all without you this site would not be possible ,(Who would have thought 15 yrs ago the internet would be here)I Have learned more valuable info on the web than all my yrs combined as a trainer.

Peace be with you all my Iron Brothers!

RADAR

Jello ?? In your diet...please explain.

Ps: Great job Radar, some people cant stay dedicated in this for 2 to 3 years. 36 is off the fucking meter !!!

Happy Birthday Radar!!

I think I am going to go make some jello.

Way to go! I know when its that long it is a passion not a chore.

You know I read an article many years ago were Larry Scott or Bill Pearl can't remember exactly who was diagnosed with a serious illness. They ate only gellatin and cured themselves. Anyone know of the article?

should name this board after you...well brotha.....I sincerely hope continue to have many more successful years in the gym!

Just goes to show that with the proper nutrition, training, and drug therapy, you can battle age fairly well!! I don't know anyone in that kind of shape.

So you take the jello at least twice a week ?.....like just a normal bowl of it?

Yes! sometimes i'll even add a mixed fruit to it for variety
Do not Expect anything noticable for at least close to 8 months to a Year as its takes time but it does work.
I Havn't had a sore joint in my body since being on it.

I think Jello is going to see a huge increase in sales pretty soon! You are in amazing shape. Congrats to you and your 36 years of hard work. I wish I could buy a full sized poster of you to hang on my wall. On the days that I feel lazy or down I can look up at your poster and say, "that dude looks like that at 50!" Very motivating knowing that people can look that good at 50 (and beyond) Way to go!

I actually had the opportunity to print that article off and it was an amazing read. An absolute wealth of knowledge with a very intelligent and well thought out foundation.

I know everyone has been throwing props your way but I must say this. We live in a very volatile societe at every level and you RADAR bring a certain class and a gentlemens aproach to how you deal and interact with us on this board and that makes a difference. You next to never insult or ridicule anyone and always have something constructive to say. There are MANY others on the board that are as helpful but today we talk about you.

I have learnt an enormous amount from this board and have always taken something possitive and constructive away from your postings.

Keep up the good work and all the best with your future endeavours.

Guess ;)

Holy Shit Man!! That's awesome.

I'll have to try out the Jello deal. I noticed that a lot of protein bars have collagen in them as well - is that also a good source?

To tell the truth i have never messed with protein bars so i can't elaborate on the ingredients. I'm sure if they do its minimal and not as concentrated as gellatin.

Radar advised me to use the gelatin, and I think it really has helped my joints. I have been using pure gelatin, comes in a big box of sealed packets. I take one packet a day, each packet has the gelatin that several boxes of jello does. It is really cheap too, cheaper than using the jello. I mix it into my protein shakes. I found several studies done using gelatin, and they all used rather large daily doses, so the packets of pure gelatin work great.

As silly as this sounds it actually has truth. Jello or gelatin is made from animal collogen.

"In all animals-including man- collagen is an essential structural protein that forms an important part of bones, tendons, and connective tissues. It is a tough insoluble protein that is essential for keeping the many cells and tissues of the body together. Gelatin contains an exceptionally high content of two amino acids which play an important part in collagen formation, namely proline and glycine.

In fact, it takes 43 grams of dried egg whites or 35 grams of dried non fat milk or 89 grams of lean beef to equal the amount of proline in just 10 grams of hydrolyzed gelatin. Though the body can form these two amino acids on its own, it has been suggested that under certain conditions the rate of synthesis may be insufficient to provide essential body requirements and degradation can exceed synthetic processes (i.e. there is a steady loss of body collagen). The intake of hydrolyzed gelatin appears to be an alternative route to getting chondrocytes (cartilage producing cells) and osteoblasts (bone forming cells) of the body sufficient amounts of these important amino acids for making structural proteins. Although chondrocytes are critical for collagen formation, their number is limited and their ability to form this much needed protein is influenced by heredity, age, physical activity (too little or too much), injury, and availability of nutrients. "

also...

"In 1998, a small Nabisco Company-sponsored study at Indiana's Ball State University found that gelatin supplements helped to keep the joints of athletes more flexible and could even help to lessen pain. Nabisco promotes this product under the name Knox NutraJoint."

If joints are an issue I would also throw in Glucosamine Chondroitin, MSM, and Fish Oil (reduces inflammation). If you want to take a proactive stance, all of these are great supps to take year round no matter what your age. Quality Glucosamine Chondroitin at optimal dosages can get a little pricey. It is probably the most effective OTC joint supplement though. Gelatin can be obtained for very cheap prices. I packet of generic gelatin a day should do the trick.
