Thoughts on Moving to SoCal ... back to...

Here's the dilly... I love SoCal... I love the weather... I love the people... laid back and easy going... just like myself. All to often, many people in the mid west are very uptight... very "workaholic" -- not that west coasters don't work hard... but there is a differnet emphasis on 'hard' -- people know how to enjoy themselves out there.

I miss the Pacific Ocean, I miss SofaGeorge, I miss My old roommate and my last roommate just moved out there...

Chicago is GREAT... I know TONS of people here... and it's insane of how many contacts and hookups I have up in this mug... but when I was out in SoCal... it was really amazing.

Now to why SoCal fell apart... I didn't have a plan worth crap. I went out there hoping I passed the bar to get an attorney job that never really existed... I moved out on a whim because my ex-finace and I broke up... bottom line, I moved out... without a plan, without proper finances... or anything...

I am in the process of saving money now... so I can hopefully do something with my life... whether it be moving to CA or staying in Chicago... or moving somewhere else I might be more happy, around people I love.

I'd like thoughts from my friends... A-Sphinx, Sofa, Kronk, PH -- as well as others... I was thinking today... about how much I missed SoCal... and how much better it would be, if I planned on a move with MORE planning than just 2 weeks... but 6 months.

Some people believe in destiny...

some in fate...

I say make your future, be the master of your own destiny and follow you instincts.

I would say, do what you love, and be where you want to be. everything has a price. try to have something concrete when you move back here though. socal has the shittiest economy.

can't wait to chill with you and the peeps again at stadium tavern

:fro:

C-ditty,

You only live once, and since you are in the position to live just about anywhere you want, make sure you are true to yourself.

However, if you are going to move to SoCal, may I suggest Monterey or the surrounding area? Property values in Cali are the highest they've ever been right now, but one can still find some reasonable real estate only 20 to 30 miles inland. If you are dead-set on SOSoCal, San Diego is the only place I'd consider. LA is a fucking mess.

Big Buck is down there. I'm sure he'd help you find a place to stay, lift, and party if you wanted to scope it out.

And the women...

Peace ;)

C - I have noticed that I have my most concise lucid thoughts in that little sliver of time between between being asleep and being "just" awake.....I think the sub-conscious is trying to be my guide at this time when I need it.

It will work itself out and you will know....and the decision will be the correct one.

I see you moving back personally.

When I'm falling asleep, I'm usually thinking about that song "BANG BANG BANG!!!" LOL

I hear you dude... I get some good thoughts before I go to bed... and I know they are legit if I'm still agreeing with myself in the morning... if I am totally opposite in the morning, or "I'm not sure" -- then I know what I was thinking about probably was a bit out there the night before...

Moving back is in my agenda... I just need to make it happen.

sounds like a plan senor!

go with your well thought out "wants". the things you want most in life are the things you tend to enjoy the process of going after.

San Diego

I'm born & raised in the Midwest - Milwaukee - and currently live in Chicago. I love it here but HATE THE WEATHER. This "summer" or long drawn out winter, if you will, has sucked major ass and I don't know why the hell I stay here.

I've never been to San Diego, but I'm considering flying out there over Labor Day weekend to check things out.

C- for someone who has lived in both places, what do you love most about SoCal??

I was thinking of going to San Diego for the 4th of July weekend. A friend of mine use to live there and he says it is great around that time. I would love to move out there, but I got to much going for me around here. If you can plan it properly do it. I have heard that it is expensive though. Good luck either way...

a lot of people come out here thinking that they're gonna become movie stars, singers, etc. well, your aspirations was a lawyer job, so you're not them... ;)

there are plenty of opportunities here for you other than law. you can pass your time as a bouncer, a job you're very familiar with, or as a personal trainer. i know you would enjoy both those jobs. i'm sure there are many more jobs you would enjoy while you're out here. you don't have to become a california licensed lawyer right away. if you come out here again just try to get a job that you would enjoy whether it's great paying or not. everyone has to start somewhere. have your priorities straight.

btw, the dogs miss you too

I grew up and lived in LA until a year and a half ago. I will be moving back in a couple years.

I know a couple of lawyers in california. They say the lawyer market is severly saturated. So I would be careful going there, unless I already had a job lined up.

The best of luck to you. I have been all over the world, and southern california will always be my favorite.

Fuck all that. Seems like it'd cost so much to live out there in South Cali...

Whats wrong with Houston? Kansas City? Phoenix?

2 words: orange county.
come hither.

LOL! Funniest post EVER!

Dont hate because ya cant relate.

Lets hear some reasoning you fuck. Houston's the 4th largest city in the US (behind NY, LA, and Chi-town). KC has over a million people and is larger in land area than Detroit and a bunch of other cities. If you ever come to KC, make sure you let The Project know so he can take you to Swope Park or somewhere on Prospect St. around 2am after he's smacked ya around and dressed you in confederate flag gear.

Why dont you try to split your year between both places? Its a lot of planning but can be done, especially if you are partially or fully self-employed.

Well... Chicago... AMazing culture, the number one nightlife in the country (rated by about 10 magazines), restaurants are amazing here, you can travel just about anywhere you want to without a car... on the best Public transportation system in hte world...

SoCal -- weather, simply breathtaking, the scenery... it blows you away... everytime I look at the countryside... it takes my breath away. The people, to the contrary, are very nice out there... I was very surprised. The attitude is VERY laid back... there is no winter, so there is no down time. The "chicago" ass doesn't exist... meaning, just about all the hot girls out there have great asses...

Down side to SoCal... I don't know that many people out there. Cost of living.. it is a tad higher than in Chicago -- but only becaue I KNOW Chicago so well, and where to find deals on rent.

Down to Chicago - Weather, the shitty Traffic (I know you say SoCal is bad... but fuck.. sometimes, in Chicago... it is retarded during Cub Games... the city shuts down)... Job market for attorneys... it blows.

More ups to Chicago -- I have amazing contacts here... For personal training, I know SOOO many people in the city... it is really retarded just how many people I know here... I have people that own gyms, stores, clubs that know me and I have hook-ups all over the place.

No hook ups in SoCal -- of course, I don't know anyone there... except ***, my last roommate that moved out there, SofaGeorge... and... well... a few others in San Diego.
