You hit some wicked turbulence and that jet drops 50 feet or so with no warning........I guarnandamntee you everyone on that fucker is afraid of flying.

Been there done that. I was more annoyed that the turbulence fucked up my note taking than I was afraid. One of my best friends is deathly afraid of flying. He waited till he was 21 to go on a flight and hasn't flown since. Not sure how many vacations, experiences, etc, he's missed because he wouldn't face his fear.

Was he not facing his fear when he decided to get on the plane at 21? this is what people say to me ; but I have flown 4 times in the past 3 years each time knowing that the experience would be bad.

I was facing my fear ; but have come to the conclusion that I just cant enjoy myself when I'm that afraid. I'm not sure what else I can do besides accept that and plan vacations where I wont have to fly instead of always forcing myself to do it for the sake of continuing to face the fear.

But I still feel like I miss out too. So I dunno. Damn why am i this way! grrrr.

He passed up more vacations than I could possibly count. The only reason he went on this one was because his parents made him come as it was a huge family vacation. He then proceded to look up stat after stat about plane crashes and all that crap. Most everybody suggested taking sleeping pills, or getting drunk and he refuse. Why? Because if he died he didn't want to be drunk, and if he was sleeping he may not be able to rescue himself haha.

He's flown once. So, no, in my eyes he hasn't faced his fear. He continues to let a plane rule his life and limit his experiences. You can drag a person afraid of water into a pool but if they never go back in did they really face their fear?

wow. He sounds like me though I've flown way more than that. It only recently started being like that. Is he a religous person? maybe he is afraid of dying in general not just flying in planes.
