Deputies seize steroid tablets at Stark home
Beacon Journal staff report
CANTON: Armed with a search warrant, federal and local law enforcement agents seized about 300 illegal anabolic steroid tablets -- ordered online from Taiwan -- from an Eighth Street Northwest residence.

Stark County Sheriff Timothy A. Swanson said yesterday that the 22-year-old occupant wasn't charged. Authorities plan to take the case directly to Prosecutor Robert D. Horowitz's staff for grand jury consideration.

``We don't get a lot of this kind of thing,'' said sheriff's Inspector Steven Ready, commander of the Stark Metropolitan Narcotics Unit, which executed the warrant with the Canton police Vice and Criminal Intelligence Unit, U.S. Customs Service and U.S. Postal Service.

In addition to the tablets, Ready said, some vials of steroids, 27 needles and several syringes also were confiscated. The drugs were sent to the Stark County Crime Lab for analysis.

He added that there was no reason to believe the steroids were for anything but personal use. Anabolic steroids promote muscle growth and are used by some athletes and bodybuilders in an effort to improve their performance or appearance.

According to Ready, U.S. Customs and the Postal Service discovered the drugs were ordered via the Internet. They were intercepted once in the United States so undercover officers could make the delivery

That case is an exception...not a rule. Customs will usually just send you a letter...I've had two shipments stopped at my past residence...no one ever came to question me...I just recived a letter
 
What I'm trying to figure out is how these cops deal with themselves at the end of the day or when they look back at their careers. "Remember the time we busted that BB with 300 tabs...man that was freaky dangerous and we were really protecting our city". C'mon man these guys just have "NOTHING BETTER TO DO". I think these guys are nothing more than a burden to taxpayers. The worst is when they really believe they are doing something good for society. Pathetic!!!!:mad:

A similiar thing happened to a buddy of mine, he got busted for 100 d-bol that he ordered from somewhere in asia, not China. 2 FBI agents drove more than 300 miles to deliver his pack, (he had never used this source before that's the reason that he only ordered 100 d-bol) he was not arrested, but was told that charges would be pending. He never even accepted the thing they came to the door with the pak, identified themselves as FBI and presented the pak to him. Like a dumb fuck he got nervous and admitted to ordering it. Never admitt anything, ask to see a lawyer before you answer any questions. For a year he sweated, getting many calls from the FBI trying to force him to give up names. Finally he got a lawyer, the lawyer made one pnone call to the FBI asshole in charge of the whole deal, all charges were dropped. How much of my tax money did this waste?

19) How about the possibility of getting arrested for buying steroids by mail order?

Yes, this is an increasingly common way people get busted and I've been getting more questions about this situation than any other. As we all know, federal law enforcement authorities monitor the international and domestic mails. The Customs Mail Division inspects packages from outside the States and the Postal Inspector inspects domestic parcels. Suspicious packages can be opened and examined. Packages from "hot" areas like Thailand, Eastern Europe and Mexico are reportedly often targeted. Among domestic parcels, those from California and the Southwest to sites on the East Coast can reportedly attract attention. The government keeps records of addresses known to be connected with steroids based upon prior shipments and tries to intercept parcels bearing these origin or destination addresses. Obviously, the sheer volume of mail makes it difficult to inspect every package, and many get through. But there is most certainly a risk. Beware!


20) Let's talk more about mail order steroids. What happens if Customs identifies the contents of an international package as being steroids?

Importing controlled substances is a federal crime. Customs will hold or "seize" the package and exercise one of two options. The first option is to send a "seizure letter" on "Department of the Treasury, U.S. Customs Service" letterhead to the designated recipient offering the chance to challenge the seizure. If the designated recipient doesn't respond, there will generally be no follow-up (although the addresses of origin and destination and designated recipient's name will be entered into the Customs computerized data system for future reference). A designated recipient who attempts to challenge the seizure could walk himself into an arrest.


21) The second option would be a controlled delivery of the parcel?

Exactly. Customs will enlist the involvement of the DEA and arrange for a federal agent posing as a courier or letter carrier to attempt delivery of the package, supported by a hidden back-up team of agents. Once the package is accepted, the agents move in to arrest the recipient, question him and search his home. In situations where a mail drop or post office box is the destination, agents will invent some ruse to force the intended recipient to come out and personally claim the package, or, if necessary, will stake out the scene to see who comes to pick it up. Which of the two options is selected in any given case depends upon numerous factors. The larger the size of the shipment (distribution amounts versus personal use quantities) the more likely that the government will invest its resources toward an investigation and arrest. A record of prior shipments to the destination address will also encourage the more aggressive approach. Also, the location of the recipient has significance. Due to the heavy narcotics traffic in New York, the Customs offices in the metropolitan area are less likely to arrest for small packages of anabolics (although it does sometimes happen) than agents in other states such as Alabama and Mississippi, for example, who have a lot more time on their hands. After the arrest, the recipient can be charged in state or federal court.


22) Can a person be prosecuted even if he doesn't sign for the package?

Signing for or otherwise accepting the package provides a stronger case for the government by demonstrating the person's intent to receive it. I have seen situations where the package was not signed for, but the feds made an arrest anyway, especially when there was other evidence linking the accused to the package. For example, a recent and still pending case involves a package of steroids bearing a phony name which was delivered to an office with numerous employees. Federal agents arrived with the package, seeking someone to claim it. The only bodybuilder in the company was summoned and questioned, making a few regrettable oral statements about past steroid use with a valid prescription. While he emphatically denied knowing anything about the package, he was arrested anyway. If a person categorically refuses the package and states that he didn't order it, and the government lacks other evidence linking him to it, the feds can be prevented from making a case. Some importers have developed practices in an effort to weaken any potential prosecutions, such as always printing "refused," "return to sender," or "addressee unknown" on the package and leaving it unopened on the front porch. Obviously, if one is contacted by law enforcement authorities, it is crucial to refuse any comment and immediately consult a criminal lawyer. Again, don't speak with the police without a lawyer!

Incorrect. In almost every state, possession is a misdemeanor. Possession with intent to sell/distribute is a felony.

I do, however, understand your point. When we order AS, we are criminals. I understand the illegality of my actions and am prepared for the consequences, should I be caught.
 
bbigman2000 thanks for your input, but I think that incident left my buddy so paranoid that he really needs a shrink, he jumps every time the phone rings or when someone knocks on his door. It's to bad really, because other than this one time, he was as straight as an arrow. He even has put his education toward a nursing degree on hold. He had completed 3 years of a four year program.

Listem. He wasn't being greedy or stupid. It was only 300 tablets. The fact that ALOT of time and resources were used for 300 tabs of a Schedule III substance is fucking rediculous. If it was 3,000 tabs or something then there is alot more reason for them to do something about it.

Well I would think the reason for them not busting him and to jail was because that police dept., kind of doing the Feds job.

It was narcotic unit, and with AAS, we well no they are not a narcotic. Just illegal. I don't know if state laws outlaws AAS, but the Feds do.

Let the Feds do there dirty work, then the blame can rest with the Feds. People now a days have great distain for the Feds. Let the Feds get enough heat under them and maybe the people will rebel, openly.

I don't see any other way out of this oppressive situation.

Instead of worrying about somebody ordering 300 (tabs) of steroids the fucking NARCS should be worrying about busting some of the cocaine or heroin trade coming from overseas. These people that are crack junkies steal and kill to get their fix. When was the last time you seen somebody on steroids robbing a store and killing the clerk to get a bottle of Cypionate. SEE... I was just reading a post about how law enforcement is looking the other way... bullshit... you have a better chance of getting heroin and ecstacy in the mail than AAS.. this has become such crap.
 
These cops are not just doing there jobs they enjoy busting people makes them feel like a hero to the public some even get there names in the paper and everything I have no use for them in Louisiana some of these cops here have went to prison for murder and other crimes after they quit the police force some of these cops are the sorriest people that ever walked busting people for smaller things than they do everyday. just my 0.2 cents
 
That really sucks that they are doing all of that over 300 tabs!!! I'm surprised that they didn't say the drugs had a "street" value of 300,000 dollars!

FAR WEST SIDE PILL SMUGGLER GETS PROBATION

A 32-year-old Far West Side man was placed on two years of probation yesterday after pleading guilty to smuggling 2,360 pills and vials of steroids into central Ohio. Gabe Reitter III of 5389 Whirlwind Cove Dr. admitted having the contraband mailed on Oct. 16, 1998, to his home from a supplier in San Ysidro, Calif.

Postal inspectors intercepted the shipment and found the pills and vials inside the package. Steroids are controlled substances under law.

Reitter had received five similar shipments earlier, postal inspectors reported.
 
how bad does it suck that he lives in a town too small to have any good local hookups, so he tries to order international and gets busted because the local cops have nothing better to do!
