This does not seem like enough food!

So I am on a TKD, trying to cut a bit of fat around the middle while maintaining muscle, and I wanted to see exactly how much I am eating every day.

I input my daily diet on www.fitday.com (highly reccomended, by the way),

and I am only at about 2500 calories! (I am about 179 lbs, 5'8", 34 inch waist - I want it at 32 before I start bulking up to 185-190 again.)

Anyway, this is what I ate yesterday:

8am
2 whole egg omlette w/ham and cheddar
whey shake

10:30am
Whey shake

12:30pm
1/2 pound of beanless meat chili
20 pork rinds

3:00pm
1/4 cup of sunflower seeds

5:30pm
Whey shake

7:30pm
10oz filet mignon
1 cup cauliflower mashed potatoes

9:00pm
15 slices of pepperoni
3 oz of hard cheddar cheese

10:00pm
1/4 cup of almonds

Now this is over 200g of protien, but the calories just don't want to go up w/o carbs in the diet...I am barely keeping my size (based on tape measurements) while working out hard...

Maybe I am just bitching...I AM trying to cut fat and have noticed better striations - but I think I just have an aversion to cutting phases - it seems very counter-productive to what we are doing - but I know it needs to be done. Any thoughts?

As long as you are not suffering drastic muscle loss - you're likely on a good track. One of the psychological difficulties of dieting down certainly involves being able to overcome that feeling of "OMG I'm wasting away to nothing and destroying all of my progress, etc., etc.,"

Believe me, I know the feeling....but in a certain respect it means that things are working (e.g., your body is telling you that you're under-consuming for maintenance levels) - and as long as you are not REALLY under-eating (e.g., you're dieting intelligently) I think that's a good thing.

Stick with it and above all else listen to your body. Don't run yourself into the ground and endure a prolonged or unnecessary cutting phase. I know so many people who are perpetually cutting....and ultimately suffereing from a the loss of diminishing returns. Some people have small success with healthy dieting and believe that going to further extremes (i.e., cutting more calories, upping cardio) will lead to even more fat loss. It's been my experience that the opposite is true. And now I'm rambling on...but good luck to you.

Thanks man, K to you for the thoughts...

You hit it on the head - for most of my younger life I was always trying hard to add poundage - now in my 30's and doing a cutter, it is like psychological torture to think about losing hard earned gains.

This ends on 3/6. After that it is vacation with the wife, then bulk time to get ready for the season. (baseball season.)
