Thighs and cardio

When is the best time to do cardio? My problem is my thighs - too much fat on them. I started to workout heavy on my thighs but barely can I see any results. I thought by doing the eliptical it could get rid of some of the fat on my thighs but I don't want to overdue that and loose any of my upper muscle. Do you think I really need to work on the eliptical for my thighs and just keep with the heavy leg routines?

first thing, spot reduction doesnt work...... what that means, is you cant do the eliptical to burn fat in one specific area.

fat burning is cardiovascular, therefore your body burns fat equally. but i have a feeling that fat is not neccesarily your problem. i carry fat in my thighs as well, but, i will drop an inch off of my quads 24 hours before a bodybuilding contest due to the high amount of water i carry in my legs as well.

just keep doing your cardio and watch your diet.

If by chance you also happen to be female, you can curse your gender for that stubborn fat on your thighs. Most (though not all) women carry a higher % of fat on their lower body compared to their upper body. This is estrogen related. If you're not female, keep reading anyway, the rest of this message still applies.

Like Exodus said, there's no such thing as spot reduction. Concentrate on overall bodyfat reduction. As you progress, you'll probably see everywhere else on your body getting hard and defined except your thighs, and it will drive you crazy. Don't GIVE up. If there was more fat there to begin with, it will take longer to lose it.

Keep on training heavy on the lower body. This will give your thighs definition. Interval sprint training is excellent as well for thigh definition AND fat burning. I personally prefer to do my cardio right after weight training. Since I've depleted most if not all of my glycogen, I'll start burning fat more quickly. It's brutal but I'm sort of a masochist that way :D. Besides, it works for me, and it fits my schedule.
