I've been reading and reading everything I can about bodybuilding, strength training and nutrition for 2 years now. My knowledge has increased exponentially since I joined Elite and started reading and posting here regularly, and I have come to the conclusion that there is only one final true way to lifting and nutritional success:
CYCLE EVERYTHING!!!!!!
I mean, DOH!! Think about it: the entire universe works in cycles - everything around us runs on cyclical patterns, from the seasons to PMS to the stock market. So why shouldn't our training and nutrition and sleep?
I suppose a bunch of smart people who have been doing this for a while already know this, but it's onnly really dawned on me completely recently, and I thought I should mention it for those who might not have thought of it.
KEY QUESTION: HOW to cycle everything??
Uh, well, I dunno, but I'm gonna devote the rest of my life to finding out
For starters - I'm going to cycle my bulking diet. Cycle the carbs, the protein, the fat, the CALORIES, and not only that, but the TYPES of carbs, protein and fat. That's a big pain, but I believe it's going to pay off. If I have egg whites one day/meal, I'll have soy protein the next, cottage cheese the next, etc. No more only oatmeal for carbs - I'm gonna throw in quinoa, rice, potatoes, legumes, and caramel pie (oh, er, wait, no ... not that last one). Etcetera.
Training also - currently doing fairly traditional bodybuilding-style programme, with as much emphasis as possible on compound moves.
Next up, I'm going to throw in some Matrix training techniques for legs, because I REALLY want them to grow (I found that book, by the way, MS).
After that, I'm going to do Westside BB style training.
I already cycle sleep, lol. I sleep longer on weekends.
Now, I have some questions for those in the know: are there any extremity limits for macro ratios diet-wise? I mean, what if one did something nuts like had ONLY protein one day, or ONLY carbs the next? Over what sort of period of time do our bodies calculate what goes into them? What if you eat your weekly calorie allottment in four days then fast for 3?
OK, I know these example are wild, but I just want to know if there's any point in going to those sorts of extremes, or what sort of range one should remain in ...
Anyone else up for the ride? Should I post progress reports? Will someone answer these questions? Oh, and feel free to give all your experiences on this topic here, OK?
Now I know why I like my bike so much ... I'm a cyclist, ha ha
