The truth about ZMA

Been reading on other boards how "the people at elite fitness seem to be against ZMA". Well since I've been here for a long time now (not the same handle) I want to find out here.

It is to my understanding that these studies preformed (one imparticluar) in which ZMA supps increase testosterone by having an anabolic reaction to the body.

Also what I understand is that Zinc and Mag(at least Zinc) are essentical for protein synthesis, two things that athleats and BB's are lacking with intense workouts.

So obviously it makes sense to supplement with them, BUT everyone keeps saying take them before bed 30mins (or so) pre before bed shake (as it does poor with calicum, on empty stomach etc).

But am I wrong here in getting the impression that these extra anabolic activities going on are simply just from your body synthesizing the proteins? I mean supps like Waxy Maize and carbs do that too! Increase to insulin = further uptake.

Then by those means you should take ZMA before every meal! Yeah, yeah I know it's supposed to be a "sleep aide" but that aside....WHATS THE DEAL WITH THIS STUFF?

I interviewd Victor Conte back before the shit hit the fan and give my take on it in my book.

You're reciting 1999 marketing. Get with the times bro.
 
I agree thats why I'm asking. The study was done by some university but I have also heard more so over that other studies have contradicted it and the studdy was flawed. It's been awhile I will admit since I've done much research but believe me I used to be all over every supp out there.
 
...I'm going to assume then you think it's bogus (especially if I'm swallowing a multi anyhow). Maybe the impression I was trying to convey was not supported very well in my writing. Basically what I am saying is it sounds like BS to me and that people are over estimating the effects of a couple of minerals.

Personally much as I believe they do with BCAA's not that they are not very important but you can just get on an over all Amino pill and include them so why go after more especially on a healthy diet.

No comparison. You can get all the zinc and mag from a multi. You get just a small portion of BCAA fro amino caps.
 
Ok so I'm gonna drop the ZMA (I noticed a simple one a day has a decent amount about 200mg).

So you think I need more BCAA than would be in the amino tabs? I was thinking I would need more BCAA but didnt know if it would be worth it to take an all around amino tab AND BCAA, I mean hell while I'm at it i may as well get some arginine by itself as well and maybe a little lucrine in addition to whats already in the BCAA then too....ooooooor just take more of the pills?

I know I'm dicing this up a lot but with intriquite stacks it gets anoying taking a pill or powder every 15 mins of your day while maintaining a clean diet to top it off.

Thank Nelson, I'm gonna drop the ZMA and maybe add the BCAA to my stack.

If you can think of anything that would be a good add please let me know!

If you're going to use a BCAA, use GEAR. It's like BCAA's on steroids! lol

I was thinking about it, I've done a couple cycles but am having a difficult time getting my hands on some right now plus money is a bit tight.

not to mention I don't want to go askin around the threads about where to pick up and who to call etc, all that nonsense.

I posted a critique thread a couple of mins ago, I'd like to hear what your thoughts if you had time!
