Well, I do'nt know if I have said it, but I recently added Deadlifts to my routine... not just stiffy's but the real deal...

And before, my lower back would always crap out on certain exercises... get tight, or hurt (because of getting a big pump or something, but it would render my workouts worthless after a while)...

Well, since starting deadlifts and (and squats for that matter) I have noticed that my lower back doesn't do that anymore... it is getting stronger and stronger... and it makes me feel more confident that I am not going to get injured....

Anyway... just a small thing. :)

Your back is a small thing? ;)

Good to hear that the squats and deadlifts are working for you.

No, my back is not a small thing... ASSHOLE! :)

Squats worked wonders for me 4 years ago... having been doing them for about 6 weeks now (front squats that is) I have noticed a tremendious change in my legs.

Deads I've been doing for about a month... and they.. well.. . are awesome... the weight has been going up like a Samuri Warrior. :)

Agreed, every trainee should have at least one of the following in their routine:

Stiff-legged deads
Sumo deads
Regular deads
Trap bar deads

The trap bar deadlift is an extremely underused exercise, probably due to the bar not being commonplace.

It is easier to do safely than regular deadlifts as well. Here is an article on this fantastic exercise: Here

Easier for your grip to fail, however. It'll get harder and harder once you get into massive weight. I don't use straps, just chalk.

Dumbell deadlifts does much the same thing as trap bar deads.

Greater ROM as well.

VERY good point. Not the best for strength purposes...but for speed deadlifts or for variation...definately something that could be used.

I started doing squats two weeks ago thanks to BFold, and i must say they are the shit. He has talked me into doing Deadlifts as well, but i haven't tried them yet, but will during this weeks back day, but i will only be doing LIGHT weight... and i mean LIGHT... LoL
Thanks BFold

Deadlifts are the Shizzel my nizzel!!!! All of the trainers at my gym teach the straight legged version, though. Do they know something I dont????

It was kinda funny today, i was deadlifting 505lbs, taking it easy after a layoff so I was just repping out with it. I pulled up the first rep and saw two little 19 year old hardbodies walk by behind me and one remarked"Wow, look how much weight that big guy is lifting"....funny how light it got after that...

snatch grip deadlifts - absolute killer, on the upper back, lats, grip and posterior chain!

Even more so if you do it on a podium or 4inch block!!

I can't even get anywhere near the poundages I can deadlift normally.

Love the deadlifts. Unfortunately, my squatting days are reluctantly over. The day i have to stop deadlifting is the day i stop lifting period. I hope that's not anytime soon.

I feel ya C...I've started doing them recently and it is one of my new favorite exercises. I love leg day!!:D

Amen...I've been doing these, and high pulls, with my pinky on the power ring and they REALLY work the upper back for sure.

You have to have a good grip to hold onto a lot of weight also.

Please forgive my ignorance but what are snatch grip deadlifts?

there's a dude in my gym that competes on the national level and he recently added heavy deads to his routine and the transformation in his back has been amazing. Rip it up!
