the hcg diet?

I have a cousin who is very obese who wants to do this and I'm trying to convince them NOT to do it cause it isn't a good diet. 500 calories a day and injecting hcg is what it is. they will not listen to me. can you help give me the science why this does not work so i can show that to them? of course they will listen to you and not family.

sure. you can simply link them to these studies that show fat people eating in a deficit and increasing exercise ended up producing no results over a decade. largest study ever done. the 2nd study showed eating in a deficit caused poor eating habits and negative hunger changes.

explain to them that when you crash your calories to 500 a day their calories out ALSO will drop. example if you are burning 2000 calories a day and you drop your calories to 500 going in, then your calories out will also eventually drop to just 500 calories out. then when you go back to eating 1500 calories now you are in a 1000 calorie surplus!! hence why people who try these diets end up right back to where they were before or even fatter. our bodies are like a furnace.

also different foods effect hormones different. so if you eat pizza and soda as your calories, even if you eat in a 'deficit' your body will actually burn less calories out. the numbers change all the time so counting calories in the end is a waste of time. focus on TYPES of calories, not NUMBER
